i was wondering if anyone could help me, i have been recently told from a pediatrician that there is a very high probability that my son is dyslexic (which explains alot...

I have 4 kids and 3 of them are dyslexic. I have been on this road for about 10 years now so I have learned a lot. My advice is to get a tutor for him that is trained in the Orton-Gillingham method. It is a fantastic teaching approach that works wonders with dyslexic kids. The earlier you start the better in terms of results. I also suggest getting the Ron Davis book the gift of Dyslexia. I don't agree with all of it but it gives you lots of hope! Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz is also good for the history of dyslexia. Where are you in the world? I would be happy to talk to you about this if you like I am in Toronto Canada. Elaine Keenan

I agree. The best thing you can do is get a full scale psychological assessment as soon as possible. Where are you located? The Scottish Rite Learning Centres for children provide free tutoring for children who are dyslexic, but they only have a few centres open (Barrie, London, &??). I volunteer with them and they use the Orton-Gillingham approach (as mentioned above). Also, if you go to www.earlyliteracyconsultant.com, I offer workshops about dyslexia, as well as card games that many Orton-Gillingham teachers use (Barrie). There is also the Dyslexia Resource Centre (Hamiliton). Hope this helps!
