Best courses in Los Angeles? I have a work trip to LA in April and I want to get at least 3 rounds in while i'm there. Can anyone recommend some great golf courses in...

What part of LA will you be in ? Will you have a car and don't mind a drive ?

In Orange County I liked Black Gold in Yorba Linda. Oak Creek and Strawberry Farms in Irvine have been recommended as great courses (but a bit pricey). You might want to check out the Orange County courses section over at [Greenskeeper.org](http://greenskeeper.org/southern_california/golf_courses/)

Coyote Hills in Fullerton is a good track. Plays a bit shorter but definitely a fun / challenging course. Industry Hills out in City of Industry has two courses there, I've played the Ike course which I believe hosts an LPGA event. Super fun course that I'd want to play again. There is Oak Creek in Irvine, which I just played on Christmas Day. Awesome course that I really enjoyed but the regular rate is $150 so pretty pricey. We got a golf now deal for $75 a player. Personally don't think it's worth the $150 for a regular round. If you want to make a drive to the Inland Empire there is Oak Quarry. Played that the day after Christmas and unfortunately the winds were atrocious so it was hard to get your shots dialed in. Excellent track and hopefully will make it back out there. We played with a single who plays there all the time, and he said that it usually isn't as windy as it was on that particular day.
Golf Course Recommendations? My dad is coming to town this weekend and I wanted to play some golf with him while he is here.
I typically play cheap/municipal courses...

Willowick (Santa Ana), River View (Santa Ana), Mile Square Park has 3 golf courses, 2 of them are really nice, the other is ok (Fountain Valley), Casta Del Sol (Mission Viejo), Those are all courses i've played and enjoyed, Good luck!

Fullerton is not a nice course. In fact, it's not even par 70, I believe it's par 67. Skylinks is overrated, overpriced for what it is, and often crowded, in my opinion. It sounds like you want to treat your dad, so if you're looking for something kind of nice ($50-$100 a round), I would suggest Black Gold (Yorba Linda) Coyote Hills (Fullerton) Arroyo Trabuco (Mission Viejo) Tijeras Creek (RSM) Beware, 'tis the season for aerating the greens, so a lot of courses will have their greens punched. Not the end of the world, but can be annoying. Also, greenskeeper.org is a great website for golf course info and reviews. I use it all the time.

Are either of you retired military? If so, Navy Golf Course is a great option. It's public but you get better tee times and discounts if you're a military.

Brea golf course (behind the plunge) is a shitty little executive course that is a lot of fun.

No idea how hard/easy this is since I'm just getting into golf myself but I don't think golf gets more of an OC feel than this: http://www.yelp.com/biz/monarch-beach-golf-links-dana-point Right on the ocean basically.
Looking for a fun Southern California golf course to go to this weekend! Any tips on where to go? I'm in the 559 area code. Thanks!
GIRequals3putt replied:
I live in Los Angeles and have never heard of 559 so I had to look it up and it's Central California. So are you in the 559 and are going down to SoCal, or did you think the 559 was in SoCal?
wabuson replied:
Here's a link to check maintenance alerts in the Central Valley. If you got to top 25 you can search just the central valley or LA for the best reviewed courses too. Hope this helps. [Greenskeeper.org](http://greenskeeper.org/central_california/golf_courses/?dMap=24)

Check out Ridge Creek in Dinuba. Awesome course for a decent price. Also, not sure if Wasco Valley is still in decent shape, but that used to be good. Grew up in Visalia. There are some decent courses in the area if you know where to go.
SoCal Golf Recommendations Looking to get back into golf, but I'm finding it really hard to find a course around LA. Anyone with some experience that can point me...

Head east. Temecula Creek, Goose Creek, Eagle Glen, Hidden Valley, to name four favorites, all loaded with LA Orange County refugees looking for good golf.

Rancho Park is a good one, although it is fairly busy.. They also have a separate Par 3 course which is a lot of fun to play. Van Nuys golf course is nice and not really that busy. They also have a Par 3 and also an executive par 3/4 course. Woodley Lakes is also a nice course which is located right next to Van Nuys. Also De Bell is a beautiful course to play in Burbank, with plenty of chances to see some deer/coyotes if you go early in the day. I haven’t played the Griffith park golf course but I hear it’s a fun and challenging Par 3. There are also some very beautiful courses if you head south towards Long Beach and also Laguna. Hope that helps! Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Where around LA? There are a ton of courses here. Any of the LA munis are decent enough or there are plenty of other public options but a lot depends on where you live and how far you're willing to drive.

What do you mean hard to find? One in your price range? Can’t find it on a map?
Golf near Vegas? Thinking of making a quick trip to Vegas in early September - looks like there are a lot of good looking courses.
Looking for recommendations of best...
F0rdo replied:
Not from Vegas, but Wolf Creek has always been on my bucket list and is a little more than a hour away. Don’t know when you’re going though. The course is closed from September 3-19

If you don’t get many replies there should be lots if you search Las Vegas in the sub.

Played Rio Secco today and really enjoyed it. It's home to the Butch Harmon School of Golf. Fun track with cool views of the strip.

I played a course called Wild Horse on my last trip and it was fantastic and in a good price range. But from what I’ve heard Bear’s Best is a gem.

A lot of courses will be in the process of overseeding in September. That means in many cases either the course will be closed, or cartpath-only if open. Check out greenskeeper.org in August to check on status at various courses. Best bet is to find a course that hasn't overseeded yet on the dates you are looking to play, although keep in mind the courses usually scalp down the grass and hold off on watering a few days ahead of closure in preparation for overseeding.

Make the drive to wolf creek, it’s worth it

Paiute Golf Course is on an Indian reservation and has three 18 hole courses. They are not required to follow any of the strict watering laws so they're always in good shape. It's only a few minutes outside of town and well worth the drive. On the other side of the valley is The Revere. They have 2 courses and they usually keep one open while they're over seeding the other. It has a lot of elevation changes and beautiful views.
