Can anyone recommend a solid, honest landscape architect that will actually respond with an estimate? I am astounded how many people I have had come and look at our...
I was recently looking for a gardening service and people raved about Keith's Gardening service. He's a SM guy. I hired his firm two weeks ago and he and his crew are great. Now, his card does make reference to landscaping. I have no idea of his breadth of experience but he would be worth a call. Like I say, he's a long-time SM guy. 355-3998Keith LaSasso

Just be clear; landscaping is NOT landscape architecture. They are two very different things. Heidi, which do you really need? A landscape architect designs, then if they see the project through contracts with hardscapers, landscapers, and other professionals. Or they might sell you the plans so you can deal with the execution of the project. Landscape architects are highly trained, licensed professionals, just like architects who design buildings. If someone claims to be a landscape architect, demand to see their license and ask about professional affiliations.

Hello lovely people! I need two recommendations...a local handyman and a good gardener...not just mow and blow. We have a pretty large yard with lots of landscaping...

Gardner...Saul Gonzalez. Very knowledgable and attends to detail. No language barriers. Reliable and very reasonable. Don't have his number with me but his email is saul@shrubbylawn.com. If you would like I will post him number when I get home.

Gardner Jay Walters; contact Esther Walters they are friends of mine
Pink D. replied:
I would NOT recommend Jay Walters. His guy barely mows and blows. When Jay shows up about twice a year it's great! Otherwise the leaves get blown across the street into the bushes etc. if you are home when he comes you can monitor. Otherwise you are out of luck. It's better than what I use to have but alot to be desired.

For the plants, I highly recommend Lisa Novick of Theodore Payne Foundation--native plants. The only way to go--bring birds, butterflies & pollinators. They say if we don't start planting NATIVE (not just drought tolerant), the only birds left will be crows, pigeons & sparrows. Birds go to native plants.
Just found out we need to cut down a large tree in our yard (damage from borers). Would like suggestions for a replacement. Something that grows relatively quickly ...

Angel Trumpet trees are poisonous. Oak trees are great shade trees but you can't walk barefoot under them and not much will grow below. Plus if you want to get it cut or trim, you have to get the city's approval because they are protected. If you want a big tree that grows quickly, learn about their root systems first as some are deep rooted and others are shallow rooted.
