I did reply to Sandy directly but for the benefit of the rest of us that might need info: Some prop-makers keep a huge inventory of thousands of props. When the call comes, they rent the props or modify and then rent them. Last weekend's mitzvah party , the prop guy even made a motorcycle prop - cost him thousands of dollars in his time but he only charged the client a typical rental fee since he hopes to rent it out again someday, perhaps multiple times.
