Looking for a recommendation for a good vet that's experienced with large-breed dogs. We just got a 8 wk Great Dane puppy, and we're looking for a vet for her -...

When I had Danes, I took them to El Cajon Valley Veterinary Hospital and saw Dr. Benavides. She was great, knew the breed very well, had great bedside (tableside?) manner, always gave several different price point options for care and was never pushy.

I take my dogs to Morena Pet Hospital now. The two vets are very knowledgeable and the prices are fair. Sunset cliffs is a good place as well. I didn't stick with them because they were expensive and it was not easy get there & park.

We went through a couple of different vets. Dr. Michael at Rose Canyon Animal Hospital (behind Costco off Morena) is the only vet that hasn't bugged the hell out of me about neutering my dog. He also does not go all "OMG!!! Raw food will kill your dog!" me like some other vets do.

While Dr Simpson is a great doc, it is impossible to see him. We left that practice because his fellow vets that work with him are terrible (and they are the only ones that aren't booked four months out). They also have very little respect for appointment time. My mom still goes to him and makes it very clear when she is making an appointment that she will only see Dr Simpson. I switched to Dr Casillo at Animal Care Clinic in Rancho San Diego. She spends a ton of time going over things with you and never makes it feel rushed. I also like all the other docs and staff there. I've moved to North County and still drive down to Rancho just for her. I don't know how much she knows about Danes but she has been great with my German Shepherds.

I've been happy with [Kensington Veterinary Hospital.](http://www.kensingtonvet.com/) They can handle my pit bull and the staff is cool.

I'm not familiar with vets in the area (except a couple I've interviewed at) but I am familiar with Danes (vet tech for seven years and counting). Danes require some extra attention health-wise due to their size and bone structure, so if you found a good vet that knows large breeds it might be wisest to get that referral and see them, even if it is a hassle. Make some whatever appointment with any nearby vet for initial shots, ask for that referral, establish with the large bread place, and finish your shots there and stick with them going forward. That's my two cents.

I love Dr Simpson, he used to specialize in English bulldogs. My parents have been taking their dogs to him for 20 ish years. When I was little I wanted to be a vet so he used to let me look through the microscopes and I helped deliver puppies once.

My vet, Dr. Chris Hoolihan, works with Great Dane's quite a bit. He works/owns Pacific Beach Veterinary Hospital off of Garnet Ave. so he's a bit far from Spring Valley, but I absolutely love him. He's very down to Earth and calls me personally to let me know what's going on with my animals.

I love dr sue with vet 2 you. She comes to my house and is fine with my giant mouthy dog as well as my other two pretty big dogs.

Cheyenne/ Jones. The people there are very honest. The only place i would ever take my animals. It's where emma works too which is a plus.

I recommend Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. They are very compassionate and will even try to help you out if something is too expensive. They also saved a dog when I was in there last time, the owners moved away and the neighbor brought him in just to put him down. They didn't and took him instead. They're on my side of town but right off the 215 and Warm Springs.
Courtney G. replied:
You should definitely go to Sahara Pines Animal Hospital. That's where I took my kitten that almost died. They are the most caring group of vets I have ever been to!

Cheyenne Tonopah on Rancho has been great, Vet JC Wilson is honest and compassionate hope she will be ok.
Hi guys not sure if this is ok to ask on here, if not just let me know and I will delete. My 10 year old lab/ Shepard mix has just been going down hill drastically....
