So sorry. It is a hard decision but one I dont regret, cancer, sudden complications. I had to utilize the emergency vet on a weekend and they were so caring and around 100? and they offer cremation and paw prints for add on. They did forget my paw prints though :( so be very clear. Also specify their procedure, some choose to put to sleep first some do not. Some do shots and some by iv. Iv was their procedure and it was peaceful. My vet would have been been two shots and I'm not sure how that would have went bc she didn't like shots.

I'm really sorry man, it saddens my heart when this time comes. It sounds like you really gave her the best life she could ever wish for.. Remember she will always be with you.

Annie M. replied:
Be aware that more than one "equine dentist" has permanently damaged a horse's mouth or even been the cause for an animal to need euthanasia. It is against Missouri law for anyone but a licensed DVM (vet) to float a horse's teeth. These "dentists" are cheaper because they lack the lengthy training vets have had to pay for. If they use sedative, they are using it without being fully educated as to it's use or having an understanding of how it affects your mount and may jeopardize them. Further, they're also using it illegally as it is unlawful for anyone but a vet to dispense such medications. If they operate without sedative, they cannot float as well because they cannot see or feel as well. I am not familiar with vets in the Springfield area. Heather Landrey with Equine Veterinarian Services is based out of Columbia and willing to travel (often even out of state). She's the best around for dentistry. The University of Missouri is also pretty fair, though I suspect you'll need to haul to them in Columbia. A licensed DVM worth their salt at floating should be charging you somewhere around $100-$200 for exam, float, and sedation.

They took really good care of him, agreed to take payments, tried surgery, but unfortunately, Cooper did not make it. I just received a s ympathy card in the mail yesterday with pop prints of Cooper as well as some of his Furrer tied up in keepsake bundles. I know Dr. Heldron at the light at L out the line I did all she could. And sheand the whole staff was compassionate, patient, and understanding. I will never go anywhere else.
