Karen Feder Photography . she is a good Christian friend of mine. I have known her since I was 5. She is an amazing photographer and lives in St. Michael. She did an amazing job at our wedding. I know dozens of people who have used her and she is reasonably priced.

Thinking about trying a small raised garden this spring (probably some bell peppers, green beans, maybe some berries) and wondering if there are any local gardening pros...
Hollee S. replied:
We LOVE our raised garden beds. We use the compost soil from St. Michael's compost, so that was free and I think it makes a HUGE difference in the harvest. I bought all organic seeds and veggies from local stores and everything had success. We had tons of everything we grew and no weeds. It was my first year gardening in Minnesota and it was a breeze thanks to the raised beds and great soil. I also used Smart Gardener, now www.zukeeni.com, and it lays out everything for you. You enter in what you want to grow, the quantity of each plant, and the size of your garden (you can even show 2 boxes), and then it will plot everything for you, putting complementary fruits and veggies next to each other. It even sends reminders each week about what you should do for each plant, if anything; it was a nifty list that I didn't really need to use, but it was incredibly thorough and a nice reference, just in case. Good luck. We grew melons, corn, strawberries, celery, green beans, sugar snap peas, tomatoes (2 kinds), zucchini, cucumbers, marigolds, pumpkins (just for fun last year as they take over the yard), carrots, lettuce, spinach, red cabbage, onions, and kale. We're doing the same this year, except replacing kale with broccoli. Good luck and have fun.

I do raised bed and they are awesome!! Super low maintenance and hardly any weeds. They produce really well. My tip: think vertical! Pole beans instead of bush beans, etc to maximize your space. I'd recommend the square foot gardening class thru community Ed if they still run it. It's really inexpensive. The lady's name is Connie Lahr from Maple Lake and as part of the class she comes out to your house to give you pointers. She's very passionate and a wealth of good info.
