I'm not a fan of Harbor freight, BUT I do use them. Their belt/disc sander will last about 2 years with regular use. Don't even think of getting a harbor freight drill, they last no time. Highland Woodworking has some great stuff, ask for their catalog. That is where I got my band saw. Here is a link. http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/rikon10 bandsaw.aspx

http://kcwoodturners.org Its turning versus straight woodworking but if you go to some meetings you can find guys you respect. And depending on the things you plan to make you are going to want to spend more on certain tools to help you be productive. Getting some feedback from guys like these can help you make choices about what to buy.

Anyone have one of these Shop Fox 9" band saws? Are they any good?
IraShannon V. replied:
You need to check and see if Grizzly has one like it. If they do then you can use the same parts if you end up needing any. Grizzly and Shop Fox are made at the same factory just different names put on them. I have a Shop Fox shaper and I always order Grizzly parts if I need any for it.
