Bring your bass with you. There are some very good music stores but instrument prices are on the high side due to importing and high sales tax. You can look online for instruments on the classificados, but if you've got an instrument that you like it would probably be easier to just bring it. If it's in a soft case you can probably bring it on board. There was a rule change recently allowing that. Looks like the vote is a resounding "yes" for bringing your guitar.:) Neighborhoods are called barrios here, and each barrio has its own flavor. If you want to live in the tourist area with lots of gringos and beaches, get a place in Barrio Puntas. Hills/cows/Puerto Ricans- Barrio Cruces, Rio Grande or Jaguey. Downtown with local flavor plus easy access to grocery stores (full disclosure: my bar is downtown so I'm partial to this area)- Barrio Pueblo. Out of the way with beautiful beaches and views- Barrio Barrero. Typical PR neighborhood, noisy and close to neighbors/grocery stores but also close to the beach- Stella neighborhood. Further away from town but with usually slightly cheaper prices and good views if you're in the hills- Barrio Calvache. Hope that gives you a little insight. Pretty much the whole town is safe, and about the same level of clean (not very, unfortunately, like many Latin American countries). At this time of year, you will find lots of options for a rental in your price range. Check out the FB group "Rincón Rentals" for options. There is a great need for more volunteers and fosters for the stray dogs here. Check out ARF, Defensa Animal de Rincón, and Barks of Hope. These are all local rescue groups. Also talk to Tiah Scheible who works her butt off rescuing animals independently. Melanie, Amanda, Tamara, Frances, Tommy, Mishell, Chelsea, Ana, and many others here have vacation rentals and may be able to help you out when you first arrive. Good luck!
