Dear "GPS" members! I have a question, that has been on my mind for quite some time, and I hope that you can help me. I started kindergarten @ GFP in 1974. My inquiry is...
Imari J. replied:
I also started in'74. My kindergarten teacher was Ms. Frueman or something like that. Ms. Younger for 1 st grade and Ms. Dickman for 2 nd grade. My gym teacher was Ms. Johansson. The principal was Dr. Zulaff.
Pierre K. replied:
Thanks, Linda! Evidently, I had the mean Mrs. Snyder, since everybody is saying there were two of them. I had her in fifth grade. My personal memories of her are awful, now have in mind, I was a good kid, almost an all "A" student, i was very sociable and outgoing, but never made any trouble. But, I hated her, to me she was an old mean witch, like the one in the "Wizard of Oz". I liked the rest of my teachers, and some of them I really genuinely loved. In my eyes as a kid, she was the personification of evil, I dreaded going to homeroom, because of her. One positive thing I do remember about her, was that she was a huge Red Wings fan, she would always talk about Gordie Howe and the team. Again, thanks, Linda Pearce
Diane F. replied:
I had Mrs. Sallen for 8 th grade, mean Mrs. Snyder for 7 th AND 3 rd! Yikes! Pierre, we had homeroom half the day, and "special" classes the other half. On various days those classes consisted of Gym, Music, Library, Science, History, Auditorium, Home Ec. for girls, and Shop for boys.
Pierre K. replied:
Thanks, Diane Klein Fitch! Evidently, I had the mean Mrs. Snyder, since everybody is saying there were two of them. I had her in fifth grade. Diane F. replied:
Richard Mihelic While at GP I always heard about two different Mrs. Snyders; one was nice and the other one was mean. Of course, I never got the nice one, only the evil one, TWICE (3 rd and 7 th grade). Did you know the actress Lily Tomlin was in Mrs Snyder's class WAY back at another grade school. Back then Mrs. Snyder was Miss. Sweeny and wore monogrammed sweaters. Young Lily Tomlin apparently had a girl-crush on her and wondered what her monogrammed initials stood for. Lily Tomlin later wrote and performed a skit about it in one of her comedy routines! I think it was called "Good-bye Miss. Sweeny". LOL!!!

Imari J. replied:
Quite sure about Dr. Zulaff. My spelling may be off, though. I lived on Hildale, across the freeway, between the I-75 service drive and Hawthorne.
