I would look at a cross trainer from what you are describing. Don't go for anything like Nike Free run or very low profile shoe and look for something with support. If you go into a good sports shop (not sports direct) they should be able to guide you as trying shoes on does help. Sportsshoes.com is good for deals so you can always buy them there if you find a specific one you like.
