We've got a Jeep Cherokee acting up and we're new to Truckee. Who's the best local mechanic?
Robbi R. replied:
Big Bear Automotive has taken amazing care of my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Reasonable prices, honest mechanics that know what they're doing. (530) 581-1444
Casey J. replied:
I like wards and quality is good too. Just stay away from Auto and Tire Doctor. They dont have a clue what they are doing and are crazy over priced.
Dave D. replied:
Ward and Sons, for sure.
Arthur L. replied:
Daniels Auto
Shannon G. replied:
Absolutely, Ward and sons
Allison F. replied:
For sure Ward and Sons
Ashley S. replied:
FHP Automotive in Tahoe City is a Jeep family! I take my XJ to Ward & Son’s as well because it’s more convenient but FHP has also provided amazing, friendly customer service. You can’t go wrong with either.
Morgan B. replied:
Arrow Automotive Reno. We never have had good work done in Truckee. Except Stones for tires. Stones is the place to go for tires.
i have a cracked left/drivers side manifold in my '90 Bronco...is it worth tacking on my own or should i just get it to a mechanic in town?
Kurtis B. replied:
Just did head on my dads 92. Had no problem unbolting. Soaked with PB Blaster for two days before. As for fixing, we had same problem with cracked manifold, tried to weld and it warped beyond use. Hit the junk yard. We got a good used one for 25 bucks at the local yard.

many posts in FSB.com say to use chassis grease for a gasket like seal. your thoughts?
