Looking for a business email service that allows for managerial oversight (visibility of employee's emails). I'm currently using Yahoo's small business email service...

Google has Vault for an extra 5 bucks a month per user you can search for keywords. Office365 has the auditing workflows. No experience outside those two. They are both pretty easy to get working. I would say Google is the most straight forward.

This is a bit of a grey area honestly depending on what your intent is with it. There are only a few instances where I'd expect an employer would actively monitor emails. If you haven't already, you may want to check your state laws. That being said you could always look at an archival software like Mail Meter. I believe they work with Gmail. I'd guess for a small business it may be more cost effective to just set up an exchange server, though.

Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online Plan 2. Has e-discovery and legal hold if needed. I don't have my pricing in front of me, but it should be less than $10/user/month. Don't monitor your employees email. Don't be that boss. The tools are there if needed, but only use them if needed.

What is the problem? If the emails are opened by the company, you know the credentials. Simply add all the emails in Outlook.

If it's not for official auditing/litigation purposes, then legal hold sounds a bit like overkill. Couldn't you just use a standard Office 365 licence and have them (or the admin) share the mailbox with you, so it shows up in your Outlook/webmail as a separate inbox? Then you can browse to your heart's content... We use this when employees are on holiday for checking their incoming/outgoing mail and it works just fine.

I use hosted exchange with [Intermedia](http://www.intermedia.com), around $30 mo for 3 users. This allows me to do 2 things; 1) see mailbox by opening "other mailbox" in Outlook Web Access and 2) add the other mailbox right in outlook so I can just click on it. If you have an activedirectory domain, you can sync your passwords so you have single sign-on. Their service has been great and allows me to have my own exchange environment without having to manage an exchange server. It also comes with a dropbox like service for business called SecureSync that works really well.
