I use a APC netbotz (But you can use any device with snmp). I hooked it to our Zabbix monitoring server. I got Zabbix configured to send messages with Telegram to my phone. Edit: typo

I built my own with a pi and an inexpensive sensor using this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Raspberry-Pi-Temperature-Humidity-Network-Monitor/ It outputs a nice graph and it can email alerts.

I was using cheap usb sensors (which may not have been super accurate, but never gave me any real trouble) with munin for a while. Munin, if you aren't familiar, is kinda like nagios except more about tracking actual values, rather than just pass/fail. It also has tools for connecting it with nagios & friends.

Get a room alert: https://avtech.com/Products/Environment_Monitors/Room_Alert_4ER.htm You can add in a door sensor, power sensor, and lots of extra options if you want. We have it hooked into Nagios through snmp checks to go to a warning alert at one temp and critical at another. Used it for years and it works great.
