Since no one has commented, I am in a similar situation, and the only info I seem to have found is to make sure they are certified. This should hopefully prevent them from being scammy or one sided.

We used [these guys](http://www.clengineers.com/). They cost more than the person who our real estate agent suggested and still missed stuff but their report was well written. I've owned 3 houses and had each one of them inspected and they *all* missed stuff, though. In addition to an inspector, we also hired a pest inspector and did a radon test.
