Not derby. Went to her before. She has an attitude and isn’t very nice to customers. Almost rude

Furniture on Consignment. I got a $1800 mattress for $400 because during delivery it got a scuff. The person returned it and I got the mattress of my lifetime. (41 years)

I bought one at Costco. They had the same queen mattress at 350 I was looking at in Derby for 500. Same one.

Mattress Warehouse in Goddard! It’s a little strange, it’s just a big storage unit and one guy that you call to set up an appointment with. However, I got a $1,200 name brand mattress, queen size, for $450 with delivery, great mattress! Brand new, in the plastic, no issues.

Get a purple mattress. They do all their manufacturing and sourcing in the USA so that's cool, but they are literally the peak of mattress technology. This sounds corny, but i seriously had back pain for years and when i got my purple mattress it instantly went away, in one night. I sleep better than i ever have in my life. Their sheets, pillows, and everything else are incredible as well. Honestly , i dont even need a pillow anymore because of how great the mattress supports me. Pillow is a bonus. Plus they do financing through Affirm so you really don't pay anything significant up front and can pay it off on your terms with no interest. Get a purple.

The ads on the TV suggest the folks in Derby are local and have better prices than the national chains. Can't vouch for that or them, but saw it on the TV so it must be true. I had a neutral experience at one of our city's 9001 locations of Mattress Firm. Nothing wrong. Nothing amazing. I got what I wanted for the price I wanted and the terms I wanted. So. Hooray. Or something.

We bought ours in December at Denver Mattress on Greenwich. The salesman’s name was Will, he was cool, we told him we wanted a Tempur Pedic, he showed us a cheaper one that was more comfortable. Didn’t try to up sell us on anything.
Recommendation for a firm-ish mattress for side sleeper? Kind of overwhelmed at all of the choices. I'm 230 lbs, side sleeper and prefer a medium-firm mattress. I'd...

Don't buy a Posturepedic, even the Plus series.
I have them in my store and wouldn't give one to someone I didn't like.
Sealy isn't producing a quality product right now. There are many options out there from other manufacturers that are less expensive and far superior.
My hope is that someday Sealy removes their head from their rear and finally produces something that is half as good as they produced 15 years ago, but I'm not holding my breath. Going public really F'd their quality. Anyone remember the Lillehammer, Special Edition, Crown Jewel line? *Those* were good beds.
Do yourself a favor, go into a store and try some. If "salesman-itis" is your primary concern, go somewhere where they seem to have your best interest in mind and not just the bottom line of the store. They are out there, I promise you, but it can be hard to find sometimes.
Stay away from the Big Box mattress stores.
The user 7_t_7 should be absolutely ashamed for his advice. You specifically listed your requirement to be in the 700-800 range and absolutely topping out at 1000 and that asshat, yes *asshat*, recommended something in the 1400-1600 range. He is the type of person that gives this industry a bad name. And 7_t_7, I specifically call you out because your advice is why people want to shop online, to avoid people like you.
I don't give an F about downvotes, but I want you to have good advice, which is what this sub is supposed to be about.

Sealy posturpedic plus series. Cushion firm. The pricier one with the latex. Its a bit out of the price point but a great starting point. Its usually a $1400 -1600 qn set but a motivated salesperson could maybe make it fit your budget. Matt firm / sleep train call it the sedgebrooke. In your price range posturepedic has a couple good cf as well. Look for a chaleigh cf to start. If cf is too soft go to firm/luxury firm. If the cf is too hard look at a plush tight top

I just got a queen Zinus "Green Tea" memory foam bed. Currently $289 shipped on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7EPSHI/
It is pretty firm. I actually ordered a 3" gel topper because of the firmness (you sleep on top rather than sinking into it), but that proved to be too squishy (the topper leaves an imprint of your body when you roll). I have a 2" topper on another bed & imo that is the right level of squish vs. firmness: (the bed is firm to the point where my side wasn't sinking in & was kind of being compressed instead, like when you lay on thin carpet when watching TV or something)
https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Master-Memory-Topper-Queen/dp/B00FJNQBJ2/
Also, I picked up their awesome 18" tall frame:
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Foundation-Replacement-Noise-Free/dp/B017YETH8K/
TONS of storage space underneath, easy to setup (2 pieces that screw together & fold in half, lightweight & only requires one person to assemble...literally takes more time to unbox it than put it together), no noise in use, plus with the 12" Zinus bed, it's at a good height to walk up to & fall into bed. You will need a grip sheet underneath, otherwise the bed will slide off pretty easily:
https://www.amazon.com/TRU-Lite-Bedding-Slip-Mattress/dp/B01AS3HADS
I also recommend getting a waterproof sheet (goes underneath the regular sheets), as any spills will sink directly into the foam mattress & never, ever come out:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2G9VFM/
I got these Mellanni sheets - they are thin, but feel nice:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NLNDU00
Slightly better than the Amazon Basics sheets I have on another bed. I have a plastic bin underneath the bed for storing a spare set of sheets & waterproof sheet (both are washer/dryer-safe). Total comes up to under $600 shipped for a 12" memory foam bed, 2" gel topper, 18" metal bed frame, a non-skid pad for the frame, two sets of sheets, and two waterproof mattress sheets. I was going to get a Casper or Leesa, but those were like $800 just for the bed...I got all that for $200 less, still a pretty hefty investment, but a decent deal. Other than that, you just need some pillows & a duvet or blanket on the top.
The mattress comes vacuum-sealed in a box, so you just undo it from the packaging & let it air out for a day or two to fully decompress. The frame comes in a large but thin box (two frames folded in half with some assembly hardware). I didn't have to mooch a truck off a friend or go to a mattress store or anything...ordered it all off Amazon Prime, showed up in a couple days, put it all together by myself in minutes. Easy peasy. Would definitely order another one!
