Holy crow.. does anyone spray their properties for mosquitos? If so what the heck do you use and where can I get it??!?! These are brutal!

Xtina Kopaw welcome to rural Alberta. We put up with a lot that city dwellers take for granted. You can control mosquitoes in your standing water on your property but it isn't really very practical as the wind will just blow them in from other areas. The best bet may be fogging your yard with a pesticide fog that will kill the mosquitos but it may also kill the good bugs. You can buy fogger in the $500 range but it needs to be used often ( at least every day). If you want to go that route contact the Beaver County Agriculture services office for more information. In the "old days" farmers often used smudges for their livestock as smoke drives the mosquitoes away, but it seems like these days officials are quick to impose fire bans which would prevent that. Maybee lots of "Off" or other product generously applied to exposed skin is the practical answer. Good luck. As a kid I remember needing to wear mosquito mesh while cutting hay so this not a new problem for us in the country.

We bought a small propane fogger at Canadian Tire for $100. It didn't kill them all, but there are definitely less. I also used the DEET-free patches I bought at the pharmacy this weekend and they seemed to work fairly well. They're ok to use on kids as well (they're really only Vitamin B12, I think?) as per the package. Last year I bought wristbands from the pharmacy as well. Not really going to help your property, but might help the kids.:)
