ISO: a good relatively local dog boarding facility. Preferably one that doesn't just put my dog back in his kennel at 6 or 7pm and then leave him until 6 or 7am the next...

Forest Shadows on Katy Lee Lane in Magnolia is superb. I have boarded/groomed my dogs there for years. They even have doggy day care and people drop their dogs off every day while they go to work.

Also, another good place, Totally Pets.

Pets Are Inn...similar to dogvacay posted above...my lab loved it! She would stay with a family that would camp out with her and just let her do the things she loved. They pick up and drop off, which is so nice. Plus, they do an in depth interview with your pooch to find out what your pooch is into so they can match them up accordingly...

Reposting from the thread in spingtx lost and found where the Original poster cross posted this looking for a place. I don't want to rant about a facility. I worked there for 3 months. I couldn't take any more. The staff was complacent with the abuse the trainer was inflicting on the dogs. The trainers are contracted. They were not technically employees of ABC. They had their own set of rules I guess but we had to clean the runs and feed the training animals. Pinch correction collars with the bite spurs left on dogs with no slack. Rough handling by the trainers, yanking them 10-12 feet until the dogs complied and healed to his leg. He yelled A LOT. He would train 2 or 3 at a time. None getting proper attention and sometimes small scuffles would break out between the training dogs even though that behavior was unlike them. The stress just got to them and being pressed against another nervous dog was a bad idea. Fear training. The facility was cleaned 2 times a day only. They used decent cleaning agents but did a poor job of diluting the cleaners. And they did not squigy the floors so the leftover cleaner and water sat in the concrete dimples of the floors and the dogs stood in that and many animals got irritated feet and bellies. There was A LOT of staff but they would walk right by a kennel that needed attention and let the dog stand in urine or sit by feces instead of breaking schedule and cleaning it up. They only went to it if the dog was actively making a mess of the accident and it was going to produce more work by making them have to bathe the animals. The excuse was mostly: The floors will be wet all day if we clean it. But they didn't mind letting it be wet all night after a clean. The dogs stood in the front of the runs trying to avoid the hose. Almost always, the animals were left in kennels while the floors were sprayed out, pee & poo was sprayed past in the runs to the back into a drains that were only cleaned at night. The runs had moist floors all day. The staff that worked the senior dog/cat section did a good job. The cages were clean and tidy, clean bedding. The VIP pets were also well cared for. Walked and clean. But the general large dog boarding area and the training boarding area in the back stayed wet and the dogs unattended most of the day. There were a few good workers that would stop and handle a mess but of the 13 or so of us I counted 4 that would go above and beyond. Rinsing the dogs feet once the kennel dried, drying the belly and rear end area. Like I said, there WERE a few good workers that genuinely loved the animals and tried. But for that large of a facility it needed to be ALL the staff not just a few.

Update: we are boarding at Tomball Pet Resort on Louetta - we used to use their doggy day care and they were running a special on the inside suites that fit our budget. I have heard amazing things about Willow Creek and Forest Shadows I may have to che ck them out next time. I had looked at Pet Spa off Robinson and they were decent but I don't think my dog can handle the "kennel" envirornment all the barking... he needs something a little more tranquil - at least that is what I think he is telling me wink emoticon . I also looked at the new vet on Stubner Airline this morning the problem there is the kennels lead out to a concrete patio - no grass... and I don't want my dog learning to pee and poop on the concrete. They said they would walk him but he has the ability to go out onto that concrete whenever he wants and I don't want him thinking that's ok when he comes home. Thanks again everyone for the wonderful suggestions!

Cage free boarding - dogs are placed together depending on temperament, and have free range all day. Then a room with sofas at night. My big dogs love it! http://m.willowcreekpets.com
Can anyone recommend a really nice dog kennel in the area? A place they really trust?
Michelle F. replied:
Hi Kristin! On two occasions now we used Dogs Day Inn over on Sawdust 281-367-3553. They were recommended by our Realtor as many clients used them and were pleased. Both experiences for us and our girls were very positive. We did look at a few other places, but I liked that they are small and the staff are friendly and caring. Additionally, we liked that they offer a suite rather then just crates that would allow our two labs to be together with less stress and it had a web cam that I can log in during business hours and check on my girls. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me, I'd be happy to talk to you. Another place I've heard good things about is Camp Bow Wow. They are on my list to check out as a back up kennel in case Dog Day is ever booked up.

We have used one once and we really recommend it. The dogs spend the day outdoors. Actually, it is a huge ranch. The dogs sleep in small groups in bedrooms with beds (no crates). They separate big ones from small ones. They gave us back our little dachshund showered and perfumed. The personnel is really nice and the place very clean. Not expensive compared to most other places we've checked before! Our dog is very anxious and nervous and she had great time (she spend 10 days with them with any problem at all) The place is: Willow Creek Ranch of Tomball Karen O'Bannion (832) 884-6122 11105 Mahaffey, Tomball 77375 Willowcreekpets@gmail.comWww.willowcreekpets.com

After hearing that I HIGHLY recommend the Stuebner Airline Veterinary Hospital or Care A Lot pet sitting! That just makes me want to cry though to think how thoughtless some people can be towards a defenseless creature that has nothing to offer but love. Thank you Raychelle for being so forth coming, but most of all for doing what you could to protect these babies.

I worked at ABC Pet Resort. I would NOT recommend it for boarding or training. Please make sure that you make unannounced visits to tour the facilities of any place you are considering boarding your animals. Most people (that haven't worked in a boarding facility) would be appalled at the quality of care your animals are getting.
