Any suggestions for a reasonably priced local large breed dog trainer? Experienced in training Akita's a must. Thanks for any suggestions.

Suggest you get in contact with JoAnn Dimon of Big East Akita Rescue in Tom's River, she's the go-to person for Akita's in the mid-Atlantic region and she works with local shelters regularly in the Philadelphia area. They do a lot of evaluation, some training, and I think there's a specific person in Philadelphia associated with the ACC that specializes in Akitas.

We are working with Justice Rescue - one on one training. More than obedience training, complete behavioral training - for both us and our dog. While we don't have any aggression issues, nor an assertive or aggressive breed, their experience with all breeds and dogs that have come from abusive situations gives them the knowledge and experience to deal with all situations. Highly recommend them. http://www.justicerescuetraining.com

Mischelle Collins - I PMd JoAnn, she says to contact her she will help you. Justice, for example, is a group of good guys - but I've never seen one Akita in any of their posts for two years. As you know, Akitas are a very special breed with unique characteristics, suggest you deal with a true Akita expert. From Joann Dimon just now- " Can you have her cntact me ? I weill help find her help. thanks Beta " She wants you to contact her with PM. This is JoAnn's personal account, I'll put Big East in the next comment (you can message that also), I've sent your name so she's looking for you ;) https://www.facebook.com/jojo2221?fref=ts .

Depending on your need - seeking out an obedience class may fit the bill. Class settings are good for dogs with general obedience issues that **do not** include:
* Extreme anxiety around other dogs or in crowds
* Leash Reactivity
* Fear Aggression
* Extreme submissive issues like peeing, barking, whimpering, or complete shut down
* Reactivity while being handled
It is great for things like:
* Building stronger obedience foundation / teaching the basics (sit, down, stay, focus, recall, etc)
* Building focus and trust in the trainer
* Reinforcing a dogs desire to work and confidence
* Learning how to motivate your dog, capture and shape behaviors and use reinforcement/rewards.
* Working in a distracting, but controlled environment (great for dogs you want to compete with or just want to build more reliable behaviors with).
* Learn new skills or sports that fit your dogs unique abilities and talents
[You can find clubs in your area here.](http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/training_clubs/)
If you are having more specific issues, especially those that revolve around reactivity or fearfulness, a behaviorist may be more appropriate than a personal trainer (but using a combination of both is not a bad idea). The vetting process for a trainer is a bit subjective as every person and dog has different needs, and not every trainer ("good" or "bad") are not always equipped to handle your exact problem.
[Here is an article in our wiki about how to identify a trainer.](http://www.reddit.com/r/dogtraining/wiki/findingatrainer) You may also want to check out our other resources on the wiki to see if there are any articles that pertain to your situation. Having a basic understanding of training methodology will be helpful in working with a personal trainer! Be sure you ask a lot of questions if you do not feel comfortable or disagree with a trainer's methodology.
