I was told I'm actually looking for what is called a Red Bird of Paradise and they are just beginning to bloom lol I always thought they were called Mexican Bird of Paradise but supposedly those are trees with yellow flowers!

For climbing vines I planted two cat claw vines last year to shade my west facing windows in Phoenix. They grow better the hotter it is. Pomegranates are a great bush that is fairly drought tolerant. Nut trees take a LOT of water to get established. Just be warned. If you go the citrus route, be mindful of the frost situation in Tucson and your microclimate. It can get mighty cold by AZ standards in the winter and citrus can be damaged heavily if there’s any really cold nights. Anything below 28 is danger zone for them. Anything below 25 and it could be game over.
