The obvious campus highlights: the Quad/Denny chimes, Bryant-Denny stadium, the Witt Center (on Abercrombie Ln, just off Hackberry), Woods Quad, the Ferguson Center, and the engineering quad. More off-the-beaten-path: Marr's Spring (NW and SE corners of Campus Dr W and Marr's Spring Rd), the Museum of Natural History (the giant skeleton is very cool imo; NE corner of the Quad), Bryce lawn (we really like quads/lawns. There's more but these are the interesting ones), the water slide (corner of Peter Bryce Boulevard and Campus Drive E), and Manderson Landing (north end of Hackberry). There's also five buildings on campus that survived the civil war: the president's mansion (across the street from Denny chimes) and its outbuildings (read: former slave quarters), the old planetarium (Maxwell hall I think, it's across the street from Bruno Library), the Gorgas House, the Little Round House (both on the west side of Gorgas Library), and Bryce Main (was the state mental hospital, being renovated and turned into a performing arts venue)

Avenue pub is a great place for lunch

For barbecue, the original Dreamland on Jug Factory Rd. Or the original Archibald's on MLK Blvd. Both are great, but everyone I know prefers Archibald's. If you like Mediterranean food, Hooligans and Big Daddy's are good. Big Daddy's is a hookah bar if you're into that. If you're looking for gyros, Glorybound is good as well. If you're looking for a diner, Metro Diner is my favorite. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. There also lots of great places on the strip if you don't want to go too far from campus. Philly Boyz has great Philly cheese steaks, Mooyah has great burgers. I saw in the thread that you are going to be a business major. If so, you should check out Bidgood and Alston. There's a nice little courtyard between them with a Starbucks if you feel like chilling out. Also, Bruno is the business library. You might want to check that out. Then there's the usual: quad, Ferguson center, Wood's quad, stadium, sorority and fraternity rows. I think the engineering quad is really picturesque though with the fountain right in front of Shelby. Edit: If you go downtown, Avenue Pub is amazing and Edelweiss is a really nice German bakery and coffee shop.

What's your major?

I see that I'm a little late to the post. Everyone recommended some good spots, but make sure to go down by the river and check out some of the running and biking trails. It's just behind the Witt Residential Complex. At the very least, you can go down there to relax after a stressful week, so it's worth checking out.
There are some really cool spots to hangout in Tuscaloosa and Northport, but you probably won't have time to check those out if you spend the day on campus. If you do, check out the [cool places guide 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/capstone/comments/rdt8v/has_anyone_found_any_cool_or_obscure_places_on/) and [cool places guide 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/capstone/comments/3kb92c/it_has_been_3_years_since_the_last_post_in_the/).
Lastly, keep us updated on how the tour goes, would love to hear your thoughts or offer any answers that you currently have to any of the life on or around campus!
Roll tide!

Restaurants:
Dreamland barbecue. Famous for having the best ribs in town and it's been around forever. two locations; the original one is a bit off campus but can be found with google maps. The other one is in north port, not far at all and has more of a menu.
Rama Jama's: next to the stadium, classic diner. It's an Alabama institution and you have to see it to believe it. Miss Dots is super close to campus. A good place to go for fried chicken with healthier options, especially if you're pressed for time.
On the strip there is also Buffalo Phil's. Super popular, the food isn't that great. You'll honestly go there enough while you're in school so you can totally skip it for now. There's also a Jim and Nick's not far. I know it's a popular chain in the south, but if you're from out of the region and haven't been before I definitely recommend. It's not too expensive and really good barbecue. Same goes for Another Broken Egg. If you're not from the south and haven't been, definitely go. They're only open for breakfast/brunch and the wait time could be long, so call ahead. It is definitely worth it, especially if you like biscuits. The Side by Side downtown next to the Embassy suites is good if you're with your parents and your mom prefers a more upscale dining experience like my mom does. Yelp lists it as French/soul food, but if you're not used to that type of food you will still definitely find stuff on the menu you'll like. If you go, definitely get the fried okra. Hooligan's and Glory Bound are both institutions not far from campus, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat. They have salads and sandwiches with more of a Mediterranean feel. Chuck's Fish and Five bar downtown are both good, a bit more upscale. Both offer seasonal and more limited menus. The fish tacos at Chuck's are pretty good, and Five bar for brunch is amazing. Sorry if the editing is weird, I'm on my phone.

Forget Dreamland, Archibalds in Northport is where it is at.
Thank you for all the nice comments. Annie Bell and WT Posey were my in-laws who owned Poseys Restaurant in downtown Tuscaloosa. My husband Ralph and I owned Poseys Cafeteria near the campus of UA from 1974-1983 when we moved to Colorado Springs, CO. Sadly, Ralph passed away in 2003. I would love to hear your fond memories about the restaurants or my sweet husband of 30 years. I still have relatives in AL and visit frequently.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a DC restaurant in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, or Adams Morgan that has a private room option?
Sarah S. replied:
I definitely recommend Ardeo Bardeo. On the Ardeo side, they have a private room upstairs. Great food and attentive service. I believe there is a terrace off of the private room. A million years ago, Mara took a group of us there. It's a block South of the Cleveland Park Metro stop; very convenient for those without a car.
Does anyone know if there used to be a restaurant in the bottom level of the PNC Bank building? This looks like a Coca-cola sign and it appears to say "restaurant". This...

The underground pool hall was Shamrock Billiards on Greensboro, between 6 th and 7 th Streets next to Bell's Steak House. The pool hall west of Johnny's was Roy's Billiards, and it was a street level business.
