Hello, has anyone got any tips of travel agents/airline etc for taking a short break in Asia from here. We're looking for somewhere to go for a long weekend which won't...
Hazel G. replied:
I hear air Asia is pretty cheap! To be serious though! Hong Kong is a great 3-5 day break and so is Taiwan. The best short vacation I've taken from korea was to Guam! 4 hour flight hotels all 10 min from airport and really beautiful! America prices unfortunately but we loved it!
Deirdre M. replied:
If you want a tour or package, try Kangsan Travel, based in Busan.
Christine M. replied:
Hong Kong is great we stayed at Ovolo and it was right in the middle of the clubs district. Easy to get to anything there. Buses dropped you of at your doorstep. And the hop on hop off buses did also
Michael V. replied:
For flights I use skyscanner.com.
Hazel G. replied:
Kayak.com is pretty good for comparing flight prices but actually for Hong Kong we found Cathay pacific to be reasonably priced depending on how far out you are booking. I have stayed at the holiday inn golden mile and the Salisbury YMCA in the Kowloon district of hongkong, would recommend both. Probably my favorite city in Asia!

Momondo.com

Hong Kong is great. So is Taiwan. Japan can be if you are thrifty.
I'll be booking my flights for winter vacation within the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for where to get the best deals. I'm open to both ...
Kelly F. replied:
i go through cheapoair.com
Jake C. replied:
kayak.com is always my first stop.
Deirdre M. replied:
If you're staying in Asia, try Air Asia - they have super-cheap regional flights. Kangsan Travel in Busan is usually good (though I have heard occasional complaints about how slowly they sometimes respond).
Virginia W. replied:
Thanks for the suggestions, through Air Asia I can get to Kuala Lumpur for 150K won. The world of discount airlines opens up from there!

cebupacificair.com is good if you're interested in the Philippines... I highly recommend it!

What is the best site or travel agency for booking cheap tickets to South East Asia? Thanks
Dylan F. replied:
I like Kayak.com a lot, but I think going directly through small airlines sometimes gets you the best deals (e.g. Cebu Pacific often does really cheap promos).
Scott R. replied:
Agreed. Kayak is decent and depending on where you're going, Air Asia is amazing! Also check out 072.com for crazy deals.
I was wondering about Philippines visa , which is required for some passports,, is there any travel agencies that can do it ? or should I go direct to the embassy ??...
Neil A. replied:
Here's the IATA visa database http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/. It's what the airlines use to check visas and it's often more helpful than the embassy websites. Egyptians *do* need visas for the Philippines
Anna B. replied:
The most reliable information about this could be found on the Phillippines Foreign Ministry website: http://www.dfa.gov.ph/index.php/site-administrator/visa-information Many foreigners do not need a visa but it is always better to check and know for sure
