Don't know about for a golden retriever but we like Barking Barber in Walton.

We have the exact same lil monster! We go to Jenna at Pawsitively Purrfect and give him a sedative before. It doesn't knock him out, just relaxes him but he is still a mess! We are looking into a mobile groomer that will come to our house as an option as well.
