I got this at the Aeon supermarket in Yomitan. It's pretty amazing soy sauce. Anyone have any other recommendations?

Carolyn Schaab has previously posted about some good shoyu. I'll try to find the old posts or maybe she will comment here.

Is there a good place to get quality deli meats? We were not impressed with the exchange, and every grocery store I’ve been too hasn’t had a deli meats section. ...

The Commissary is pretty much all you’re going to get here. We used to get Boars Head back in the states. Here we just buy Tillamook cheese & we cook extra chicken/turkey/ham & use that for lunch meat. Sandwiches aren’t eaten in our house very often so it hasn’t been an issue.
Aubre M. replied:
I figured that might be the case, but wanted to check first. We also got Boars Head or Publix deli meats back in the States, and that’s been the ONE thing that has been difficult to go without, simply because my kids would always eat it and it was quick and easy for lunches. Thanks for the replies

I had a sandwich from https://www.facebook.com/252384668541440 Sandwich Stand TCM, he uses local smoked chicken and ham. I don’t know where he gets it from though ☹️

Depends on what you are looking for: Rare Roast Beef - San A Pastrami - 5 Star Deli Cures their own Ham - OkiHam Prosciutto, Capocollo, Serano, Salami -- Usually through Ivanos Bacon & Sausages -- I prefer to cure my own (Japan doesn't cure with Prague Powder usually) Cheeses -- John the Cheese Guy. Can also order a lot of Deli Meats from The Meat Guy (http://www.themeatguy.jp) -- He's got Aussie Deli Ham, Smoked Turkey, Prosciutto, Salami, etc... Or just make a quick trip up to Costco in Fukuoka :) We fly up on Peach for like ¥4000 round trip, do a big shopping and ship back right from inside the Costco store.

Hello Everyone! So the commissary has been out of most dairy products for a while now. Random question: Anyone know of a grocery store that sells yogurt or in specific...

99.9% of stores sell yogurt ...San A is my place to shop! Check the albums on this page for picture reference to look for in stores.

Odette Oliveras no kidding! I was in the commissary this am & no such luck. I will be sure too thanks again:)

Odette Oliveras no worries, I go into work in the afternoon. Hopefully my husband & snag one on his way home!! LOL
Jacob B. replied:
This is where learning Katakana can be helpful because the Japanese brands clearly say "Yogurt" right on them: "ヨーグルト" I've been getting mine at the MaxValues - they have a nice store brand with a pink lid. There are fat free varieties, usually with a big 0% on top, right next to the regular. I haven't seen any Greek yogurt. San A has some, too, but usually the Meiji name brand, which is a bit more expensive.

Where are some good places to go grocery shopping to pick fruits veggies and the essentials without having to go to five different places?
Jast V. replied:
Ashlee Maki Fritz And for new members: I highly recommend that you read this very recent topic: https://m.facebook.com/groups/160140934188143?view=permalink&id=329054247296810 Particular to you question -- Up in the Photo Albums is one labelled: Local Grocery Stores. It has photos of many signs and logos for local grocery stores.

I go about once a week to Ginowan to go to Aeon Big Express (Japan, Okinawa Prefecture, Ginowan, Oyama, 7 Chome−6−1 はにんす宜野湾管理事務所 (はにんす宜野湾内) The Big Express Haninsuginowan). (Are you all tired of me saying that, yet?) I also get to hit up Daiso in the same shopping center. If I need other veggies, I go to the JA (Japan, ぎのわんゆいマルシェ) nearby there. On Tuesdays or Wednesdays, I'll go to the San A near Kinser. Once a month or maybe twice a month, I venture up to the Banana Stand (in the files under Yasai Batake), to scope out the cheaper veggies, bananas and jalapenos. (I added addresses to the ones I have gone to. I pinned them and copied the address.)
I'm wanting to start doing all of my grocery shopping out in town rather than at the commissary but I need help with a couple of things. First, when looking for...

You can get yaki imo at San-A, MaxValu and Union. There is also the wandering yaki imo carts that roam the neighborhoods. Can't miss them. They drive around slowly, like ice cream trucks.. blasting a guy singing "yaki iimooo.. yakiiii iiiiimooooo!" a capella through a loud speaker. Ladies, besides some grocery stores carrying international ingredients and foods ( Big Aeon mall ), or usual spice/tea stores, there's no specialized Indian stores on the island. Indojin.com is an online specialized grocery site. Shipping to Okinawa is around ¥1200.

I'm technologically challenged and don't know how to drop a pin...hehe...but if you go out gate 3 and keep straight until you hit 329, turn right on 329, left on 85, drive through a few traffic lights, and San A will be on your right. It's very easy to get to and the JA is on the way so it's convenient if you go by that farmer's market (it's on the left as you go straight down that road out gate 3 before you hit 329).:)

I second San A main city. It's bigger than most and has great variety.
