Computer repair recommendations Hi all. Does anyone have recommendations for computer repair? I've got a broken laptop screen that I need to get fixed asap
-karou- replied:
This probably wont help you get it done fast, but fixing a laptop screen can be really simple, depending on your model. Mine was as easy as removing the bezel, taking out the bad screen and plugging in a new one. It took a few days to get the new one in the mail, but it saved so much money.
ThatDadGamer replied:
Computer Mart on Andersen is trustworthy and decently priced. The owner is a bit deaf but they know computers.
DiabeticButtCrust replied:
Depending on what make/model laptop it is I could do it. I've seen replacement screens in the $40 - $120 range. (The latter being a 3D screen) Most of the time installation is as simple as some plastic clips, 2 - 4 screws and a plug. Only takes about 20 minutes at most. I've done a few, But I understand if you are looking for a professional shop.

Although his primary specialty is Apple products, Larry at [NW Mac Only](http://maconlyofwa.com/) does display replacement. Maybe he can help you.

Google a place called laptop zen. It's just a guy working out of his house and I don't think he even has his own website but he does quality work for good prices. A few weeks ago the guy working it not only replaced my broken touchscreen but actively and methodically took apart my laptop in front of me to look at what was wrong (taking out several chunks of broken plastic while he was at it), and we both went over prices for replacement parts on the same screen. He also reinforced said crumbling corners with epoxy so it shouldn't break as it was probably engineered to now. To top it off he was even open to trading in a spare motherboard I had lying around (thanks newegg shipment error!) and knocked the price of the repair from 160 to 80. I see this is a few days old so hopefully this helps in time!
Need Apple laptop help -- dang thing won't accept CDs...put one in, laptop made sound like usual...then spit out the CD. Did it twice with one CD, then -- thinking...
Lei I. replied:
probably need to replace the cd thingy...around $50 or so...check out Egghead.com for good prices....good luck!
Lauren D. replied:
Clean the optical lens? There are CD-like thingies that do that. If the drive is the kind where the whole shelf pops out, you can use a lint-free cloth and alcohol to clean it. Unc Bob will know what I am talking about. Good luck!
Julian U. replied:
get a can of compressed air from your computer shop or Office Depot or Staples. spray the compressed air into the slot liberally until the inside is clean and then try to CDs again. this is a common solution for Apple drives.
