Does anyone know of a family doctor in Victoria who is accepting new patients?

www.victoriamedicalsociety.org We don't keep lists at most medical clinics because frankly there is rarely a list to keep. Keep checking the website or phoning the medical society. If a GP moves here and decides to open a family practice, they're the first to know. Also, ask your friends, ask around. I'm sorry to say because of the price of living, and the fact that there are no incentives to do family practice, there are hardly ANY doctors moving here and the ones that do are taking walk-in shifts. If you need a list of walk-in clinics, PM me. :)

the Victoria Community Health Co-operative may be taking patients. They are located in James bay, and they have a website. http://victoriahealthcooperative.ca/

not sure, but if you walk into any walk in clinic, they have a list :) hope that helps

I've just been going to a walk-in clinic. Show up in the morning and it's fine. Don't show up at 1 and expect much.

Not many docs are taking Medicaid anymore unless you also have Medicare, and Medicare is the primary insurance. Thank the Affordable Healthcare Act for that. The few that I know of aren't taking on any new Medicaid patients. Maybe try either Citizens Navarro Clinic, or Citizens Mission Valley Clinic. They're still county, so they should take Medicaid.
Looking for a sports injury doctor Does anyone know a great doctor in Victoria that can help fix my SI joint sports-related injury? Would be great to have a family...

In Uptown Shopping Centre there are group of Sports and Osteo Dr's you can self refer to, sorry the name escapes me at the moment...Back Fit?? Im told there about a dozen or so specialists and support staff there, so they should be able to help you out.

Dr. Chris Watt, at the Khatsalano medical clinic on Cook Street, is a Sports Med doc and is available for regular walk-ins. He's insanely popular at the Cook St. clinic, so check [the schedule](http://khatsclinic.ca/doctors/doctors-schedules/victoria-cook-st-village-medical-clinic) to see when he's working, show up EARLY, and hope you get in to chat.

You do need a referral for Rebalance, which you can probably get from a walk in clinic. I saw Dr. Leblanc there recently and he was great. My physio specifically asked my GP to refer me there.

One of the docs at the university clinic deals with sports injuries. Can't remember her name but she's great, highly recommend.
istjr replied:
Dr. Steven Gordon in Fairfield is my GP and I am very happy with him and he's pretty big on sports. In the same clinic, Craig Babiuk is a physio I've used for my knee (which he discovered was actually my foot, go figure) and I would recommend him.
Can anyone recommend a family doctor that is taking patients? I've lived in Victoria for a number of years and have always used walk-in clinics, but as I get older I'd...

Hello,
I work for the Victoria Medical Society, [http://www.victoriamedicalsociety.org/gp-listings](http://www.victoriamedicalsociety.org/gp-listings), and this is what I do. Basically our society is here for the public in order to help them find family physicians. Right now there is no one taking patients, that we are aware of. You can also try the college of physicians and surgeons of British Columbia website, [www.cpsbc.ca](www.cpsbc.ca) all though this is never very accurate. All we can suggest is going to a walk in clinic and continuing to check with us either via website or phone which is listed on the website. We do have a listing of walk in clinics on our website.
Now the next question is do we take a waiting list and the answer is no. There are far to many patients without doctors in Victoria and more and more everyday. There are about 3 doctors retiring in the next month with no one to take on there practice. This means 3,000-6,000 patients about to be "orphaned". Good luck with finding a doctor.

According to VIHA, there are no doctors taking new patients. However, I go to the medical clinic that is beside the Market on Yates (I think they call it the Yates Street Integrated Medical Centre) and have a regular family doctor there. You may want to inquire at that clinic to see if anyone is taking on new patients. They sometimes do but don't like to announce it because they'd be overwhelmed with requests.
BleedsBlue90 replied:
Good luck. Best option is to pick a walk in and request the same Dr every time.

How is it possible that no doctors in the city are taking patients? How does the government see that and not start tripping balls? My family doctor went on vacation to Australia and never came back... Fucking hell.

if you can't find a family doctor i would strongly recommend doctor woodburn at the walk in on shelbourne and mckenzie. he was my neighbour when i rented a house in gordon head and i paid him a visit when i was having some serious health issues that other walk in clinics had given me the cold shoulder. he didn't realize i was his neighbour, and spent a good twenty minutes learning my medical history before giving my some very solid advice. 10/10
