A great trainer is Phillip with Log Cabin Kennel on hwy. 401 N toward Louisburg. About a 15 or 20 minutes drive from Wake Forest. I board my dog here also. Phillip is very good and has trained several german shepherds. Also, many other dogs.

I second cape lookout. You can walk on the paths and there is a little historical museum about the lighthouse. Camp right on the beach, they have boats that will take you and pick you up. Its gorgeous. My aunt and uncle have a house across the sound on Harkers Island and its quiet. A few places to check out: 1) Keen's Steakhouse - classic, old school, get the mutton chop, it was reported to be Babe Ruth's favorite meal. 2) The Dead Rabbit - apparently it's the best cocktail bar in the world. Haven't been there yet. My in-laws went and said if I went I'd never come home. 3) McSorely's Pub - oldest pub in NYC. One place not to go...Guy Fieri’s restaurant. Over priced and the food was not good. A little hole in the wall place - Times Square Diner - was reasonable, great service and the food was amazing. We ate breakfast there twice and dinner once. If you make it to Little Italy try Il Cortile for dinner then a short walk to Ferraras Bakery for dessert.
