Arnold's Tea on the Northside has amazing tea and I'd classify their coffee as pretty good. I'm told their iced coffee is very good (I've never tried it), but it's not exactly iced coffee weather out there...

If they're familiar with Zekes (has a location in DC) I would suggest there. You won't find better coffee in the city. Also they have tea.

Coffee Buddha in the North Hills has fantastic coffee and serves tea from Tupelo Honey Teas (which is also superb).

Try Big Dog Coffee in the South Side. Their coffee probably outdoes their tea, but the tea's pretty decent anyway.

I don't drink coffee but have been pleased with the loose leaf tea selection at the [Beehive Cafe](https://www.beehivebuzz.com) on Carson Street in the South Side.

Baked and Wired serves chemex. It is located in Georgetown, not sure if that is too far away. There is an Illi shop in south Dupont.

Filter near Farragut West has good coffee, but they have a strict no cell phone/laptop rule. M.E. Swing, over by the White House, also has good coffee and sells good, freshly roasted beans. Whole Foods has an alright selection of beans, but you need to make sure to check the roast date. Sometimes they have old stuff.

Does it have to be closed to the public? The Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery, fittingly has great natural light. http://www.npg.si.edu/inform/courtyard.html
