I find Nikon DSLRs slightly more user friendly in manual mode. However, Canon gear is usually a bit cheaper. Here's a link to my recommendations on my website. Yea, and its hard to find shops like that any more in general. Only thing that ever really got me was that they only offered Tiffen Filters in house. No higher end on the shelf. But those guys were an awesome resource as well as Alaskan Photographic Repair on 2 nd.

I have seen some amazing shots from Entry Level DSLRS like the Canon T2 i, t3 i t4 i or Nikon 3100/3200/5100. There are even real nice Point and Shoots out there that can accomplish Night Photography (Canon G12, etc). It really depends on your budget for a camera and lenses.
