Check out dpreview.com to compare different models. Cheryl, I wouldn't compare Powershot to D3000. Different class. But this website will allow you to do your homework. One thing to point out on new Canons that I mentioned: the best in class Live Preview when recording HD movies. But please... Read for yourself. Make an educated decision. It is not a 100 bucks. It will last you years.
