Any advice for us:
The bottom level of our house sustained water damage over 48 hours ago (3 bedrooms 1 living room) and so far only the overseer of the house has come...

Call the Residential Tenancy Branch 1-800-665-8779. Explain the situation to them. They will advise you, and if necessary they will adjudicate (act as a judge) over any issues between you and your landlord. The RTB has the authority to make all sor ts of orders pursuant to the Residential Tenancy Act, and can order your landlord to fix things, abate your rent or other things. They can also fine your landlord. Call them.

First thing is rip the carpet up and chuck it, it's fkd. Turn all the heaters up (if they work), keep the dehumidifier there. Other than that it's a waiting game. Certainly contact someone for legal counsel. Saul Goodman is recommended.
Graham Y. replied:
This should get you started http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/topic.page... Some landlords take advantage of inexperienced and foreign renters as well as low availability to mistreat their tenants. You do have rights and there is recourse without shelling out a bunch of money to a lawyer.
Tom A. replied:
None of this is your responsibility bro. Call tenants bc and they can give you and answer over the phone 604.255.0546. They answered a question for me right away when I called them
To further pick your brains via Facebook- can anybody recommend a good TRAVEL INSURANCE company? Flying out in 2 weeks so need to make work of these things :)
Bryce M. replied:
check out travelinsurancedirect.com.au - was half the cost of covermore and better cover (covermore ended up matching their quote too)

World nomads is looking pretty good value for money wise, and I like that you can extend the policy online because I'm not sure how long I'll be gone for. Bryce McLaren I had trouble with travelinsurancedirect.com.au when trying to claim with them in the past, so I probably wouldn't use them again to be honest! Amy Ellis that's cool, can you send me your work e-mail or something and I'll send you some details and get a quick quote off you as well?
