Can anyone recommend a good gastroenterologist?? I was told I needed my gallbladder removed but would like a second opinion and would like to explore alternative methods...

Dr Boutt

If you want to go to Beaumont, I would suggest Beaumont Troy. A good gastroenterologist is Dr. Richard Wille. If it is determined that you need your gallbladder out, there are a number of general surgeons here -and they are all good. One group is Premier Surgical Specialists http://www.premiersurgicalpc.com/ If you elect to stay in Port Huron, Anthony Boutt is excellent. He was, I believe, a first year resident when I did my general surgery rotation at St. John. He was impressive even then. Amanda, one thing that I want to mention is to suggest that you ignore the homeopathic/naturopathic suggestions that you do a cleanse that can rid you of gallstones. The problem is that it may dissolve gallstones enough that they pass down into the duct -and sometimes lodge there. This results in gallstone pancreatitis, whihc is extremely painful and very serious. Yes, if they determine that you have gallstones (cholelithiasis), a slow emptying gallbladder (biliary dyskinesia) or an inflamed gallbladder (cholecystitis), get it out. The procedure can be done laparoscopically and have you home the same day. The risk is low.

Thank you very much! Dr. Boutt was booked until November but I am seeing someone in the same practice as him who also comes very highly recommended. I've realized it definitely needs to come out I just want to find the right surgeon.
Amanda J. replied:
Yup. It's Zubin Bhesania.

Dr. Nasr is an excellent gastro doc. Dr. Demashkieh removed my gallbladder 10 years ago.

I had my gallbladder removed in the ER, I was barely conscious so I didn't have a choice I guess but Dr.Clark-Paul did mine and "accidentally" nicked an artery and I bled internally and was in a coma and on life support. I know that this surgery is very benign and I'm not trying to scare you but please don't go to her. It was a bad experience and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
Amanda J. replied:
She is in the same practice as Dr Akhtar who I originally went to see and is the reason I need a 2 nd opinion.

Go out of town! Try Beaumont Hospital's Drs. Don't know about gastro, but they are tops in Cardiology! Took my Mom down to Troy Beaumont. About 5 years ago. They Saved Her Life! Today she is 83 only takes one blood pressure pill and one aspirin, a day. Before going she was taking a fist full of pills with many many side effects. Her Dr. talks to her with respect and listens to both of us. He works with us to keep my Mom healthy. And Troy Beaumont Hospital is so professional, they have enough staff to help all patients 24 hrs, no need to stay over or leave and worry for patient. Troy Beaumont NEVER tried, to get us to put my Mom into nursing home. They work for/with my Mom to make her healthy and self dependent . The Troy Beaumont Hospital is so refreshing. The drive is worth it. Saved my Mom! Don't know for sure if all Beaumont Hospitals are all the same, but I would go to any of the Beaumont Hospitals and Drs.

Since I don't know how bad your gallbladder is I don't know of what alternative you can do for your gallbladder (I've heard of cleansing it, but like I've said, I don't know the severity of your particular case) Dr Bout removed my man's gallbladder this year.... Awesome doctor. He speaks in normal terms, has a good chair side manner, is calm and polite. I've encountered many doctors over the years through work and he is one of the ones that's on the top of my list for "awesome doctor"

Dr. Bout for sure. Did mine. Mine were the size of golf balls. Only a half inch scare.
