Beginner ballet shoe recommendations please I'm an adult beginner with narrow, flat feet. I've been taking ballet classes for 6 weeks and have decided to get some ballet...

Ballet slippers come in widths so you don't have to worry too much about finding a width/length to suit your foot, especially if you can go in store to try them on. They need to be quite snug — like a thicker sock, almost — but there are usually elastics and things to adjust the fit. Have you a local dance store? They'll be able to fit you easily. Otherwise, try contacting Sheila at www.justballet.co.uk. They have great customer service and I'm sure she'll be able to help you out a bit more!

My school recommended Bloch Dansoft full-sole because they help your feet get stronger. I have compressible feet (you can squish them side-to-side) and they fit very well...if you get leather, they'll heat up in class and become more of a custom fit as you go on. Don't store leather shoes in a plastic bag or your purse, and put some of the cornstarch baby powder in them every 4-5 times you wear them so they don't stink too bad. And if you don't like them, try some different ones next time. Fit for length, the drawstring helps with width.

I like the Bloch Pro Elastic shoes because they fit well and are narrow enough. I also have somewhat narrow feet and wear 5B (not all ballet slippers use the same sizing, but these are roughly the same as UK street shoe sizes). Your best bet is to find a local store, but if you don't have anything nearby, there's always finding ones on Amazon UK with free returns.

Get fitted at a dance shop. There's no real "pro" vs "beginner" shoes, everyone's needs and fit are so different. If it fits you and feels good, that's all you need to know. I have multiple pairs for different surfaces or just use socks sometimes.

As was mentioned, ballet shoes are meant to be snug, but you should be able to straighten all of your toes. You shouldn't feel scrunched. As far as brands and styles go, I love canvas ballet shoes. They are very affordable. You'll also want a split sole for flexibility. I personally prefer Sansha Pro canvas ballet shoes. Enjoy your new hobby!

I also recommend going to a dance shop. They will know how it should fit your foot. Or you can just experiment with different brands and sizes but that could get expensive.
