Anyone know of any cheap and honest auto repair shops? Need to pass safety inspection on my Honda. So I have been to a couple of places and they both quoted about 800...

What does your car need done? You can likely do some of these (lights?, wipers?) yourself. Brakes, belts, exhaust work may be a little more difficult, but always do-able. If the garages you've been to are all recommending the same repairs, price up those repairs and work the shops against the other with a few phone calls. Go online and ascertain the 'book' hours each shop ~should~ be using first. Price up the parts yourself and make sure that the garage will install customer parts (some won't because they can't guarantee anything).

Auto Stop on Four Mile Run in Arlington. It might be Tom's Auto Stop, but it's the same place. They've turned me away several times saying, "There's nothing wrong with your car" with no diagnostic charge. My wife interacts with them more than I do, and they treat her great. I love those guys. Tell 'em the lady with the red Pontiac Aztek sent you. Or don't. Whatever.

My friend Eric works at the Tysons Corner Honda, did you want me to ask if he can do it for you? I know dealerships usually suck, but he has helped me out plenty of times for cheap.

I would recommend [Aim Auto Repair](http://www.yelp.com/biz/aim-auto-repair-washington) in DC. The reviews are excellent, and the owner and his wife, natives of Laos, are great people. Check out the reviews... They give fair prices, and are known for not screwing over their customers. They even lent me $20 to get home after I realized I had forgotten my wallet, and this was before they had even looked at my car, let alone charged me anything. I guess they can't actually inspect your car for emissions, but if you know exactly what repairs you need done, I would definitely recommend them. If not, check 'em out if you ever need any work done in the future.

I head to New German Performance. http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-german-performance-lorton So they are out of the way (at least in chantilly), but I'll make the 30 minute drive to go to them. So when you first go there you will notice that they do a lot of after market stuff and that's true but they do GREAT general maintenance and repair. They follow up on their work and make sure things are done correctly. I can't reccomend these guys enough.

Backlick Service Station in Annandale. They don't do inspections, but they will fix what was found to be wrong. Since you still have to return to the original inspection station for the final approval, it doesn't matter that they don't do inspections. I can't possibly recommend them high enough. I found them five years ago through a recommendation on the Car Talk website, and I have gone no where else since. Their prices are more than reasonable and they will not cheat you. I asked for a tune-up once, and after looking at my car, he said I didn't need one. They also guarantee their work. I once had my brakes done and on a different visit for a different car, I mentioned the other car's brakes were making a squeaky sound, but were working okay. I was surprised when he immediately went to his files, pulled the work order, and seemed genuinely distressed that the work wasn't perfect. They are so good, 'I' would guarantee their work. And they are THE nicest people.

I always go to Caton's Automotive in Woodbridge. They charged (last time I went) only $39/hr or something like that for labor. Most places are $75-100. Nowadays they're pretty busy, but I definitely recommend calling them

I suggest Schmitz Exxon on Spring hill and route 7. They've been very good to me and I've gone there for over six years. Best in Tyson's in my opinion.
