I have always used Bookings.com with success. We found a great hotel in Mellieha at Easter, last year, through them.

booking.com are really greedy and slack with hotels on last minute stuff...try airbnb who charge much less commission to hosts and have great places.

Travel Republic or Hotels Click - there are some good deals around at present.

Lastminute.com or trivago , both very good for late deals

We used Air B 'n B and it was cheap, close and clean. But there 7 of us so ours was a 3 or 4 bedroom
