Here's a google page that lists numerous organizations that help people who do not have the money for necessary vet care -- check the humane society and Best Friends has a whole list: https://www.google.com/#q=groups+that+help+families+with+vet+bills+for+low+income

Do they have an estimate from their regular vet (if they have one) of cost for at least full diagnostics? Mayor's Alliance in NY has a list of low cost clinics AND organizations that help with bills; is this something Yonkers could help them figure out? http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/yourpet/vetcare.htm

Here is a link to a post on the Zim Cocker Spaniel Forum. There is a lot of info on IMHA on this site. There are more articles posted as well. Just look around. Best wishes if you have an IMHA pet. http://www.zimfamilycockers.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3471

When I brought my Stinky in to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Hospital, his PCV was 8, he couldn't walk and could barely move. He was steps away from death. He has now been in remission for over 5 years and is off all meds. I don't know what their rating is, but I do know that they were amazing. The vet student who worked his case now specializes in canine autoimmune diseases in her practice.

Stacy, I have heard about a hospital in New York that specializes in IMHA cases. I just can't find the info on it right now. Will keep looking... As you stated, UC Davis is very good as well...
Debbie L. replied:
UC Davis saved my Halu. When she was diagnosed, she was so severe and went through almost 1 transfusion per day for the first 5 days. Our local vet transferred us to the specialist and the specialist finally recommended us to drive 7 hours up to UC Davis for the plasmapheresis treatments if we want to save Halu's life. According to our specialist there are only two places offering plasmapheresis in the US right now and UC Davis is one of them. I am grateful they saved Halu's life. I don't know their ranking or if they are specialized in IMHA or not, but they sure do have top-notch technology and equipments for a vet school hospital!

We go to Cornell University Vet school in Ithaca NY . Dr Lucy is fantastic! Our girl is in remission now, one year ago she had a 35% chance. We have been taking animals to Cornell for the past 20 years and my parents took animals there as well. No complaints.
