I'm a Huntington Beach local and need advice for the following HB minor. Here's what I posted on my timeline:
I'm seeking advice. My wife and I are taking care of a 16 year old boy who's mother has kicked him out of his house. This is a regular occurrence. She'll kick him out for a few days, he stays at a friend's house, then he's back at home. Then, a few days later her buttons are pushed and she'll kick him out again. He's a good kid, well liked, well behaved, polite and has to deal with his suppressive mother's mental illness daily. We've seeked the advice of Child Protective Services, but they were of no help. He loves his mother and doesn't want to call the police. I don't want to put her in jail or make her and her youngest son's life more difficult.
His immediate goal is to join the Coast Guard. They take minors at 17 that have parental consent. This would be his way out plus he's really interested in a career with the Coast Guard. He also wants to take a high school equivalency test, a requirement of the Coast Guard. He has a job waiting for him at Knotts Berry Farm, but he'll need an ID to cash his checks, which can be obtained with a birth certificate. All the above will need his mom's signature, but she won't cooperate. I suggested to him to send her a friendly text to say, "Hi. I'm fine", but she's blocked his number.
Legal advice would be ideal for us. Does anyone know of an agency or attorney who would be willing to help?
