About us
In 1978 a group of citizens from the Trilby Civic Group met out of concern for indigent people in the area. The group secured donations to open East Pasco Health Center in January of 1979. The first patients were seen in a modular facility that served as a health center with one primary care physician providing services to medically underserved patients. Later that year, the center was fully incorporated as a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center and a Migrant Health Center and led by a consumer majority community board.
From those humble beginnings, the center went through names changes, location changes, renovations, expansion and significant growth. Its current name, Premier Community Health Care Group, Inc. was established in 2004 to better brand itself as a primary care provider for the entire county. Premier has grown from serving a few hundred patients in a modular unit with one provider and less than 10 staff to serving over 22,000 patients this past year out of eight locations with average of 160 employees. Since its inception, Premier has provided more than one million patient care services.
Through the years, Premier has been recognized by the Tampa Bay Business Journal and the Pasco Economic Development Corporation. The most recent expansion was the establishment of a family medicine (adult & pediatrics) location in northwestern Pasco County (Hudson). As a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) for Medical, Dental and Mental Health for the Medically Underserved Population (MUP), Premier leaders expect to continue fulfilling its mission with a laser like focus on removing health care barriers for the uninsured and medically isolated population.
Today, Premier employs a highly skilled, compassionate and culturally diverse workforce that is committed to improving the lives of Pasco residents through quality, affordable and accessible healthcare services. It’s a new office, and it’s not part of the health department anymore but It it’s in the same building. My daughter is 7 and I liked them better than her dentist. I brought her there because I couldn’t get her in at her dentist. They were amazing.
