I'm trying to calculate costs (roughly) and can't find information about vehicle insurance for the individual countries. We are planning to go with Canadian plates. 2. For questions regarding border crossings and insurance look in wikioverland.org Unfortunately there is no insurance available to cover all countries.

The problem is that all official sources say we need a credit card, but we have only debit cards (Visa and Master Card), which is totally fine to make a "safe deposit" in rental companies like Hertz, Europcar and etc. And if not, what are our options? Should we carry cash to pay or can pay from debit card? Also would love to see any recommendations about insurance in Mexico, not expensive and reliable. Thank you in advance.

  Hi guys, my beloved Land Cruiser will need some attention. I'm currently in Cusco, Peru. Any good experiences with mechanics in Peru? Or would you recommend sitting it out until Bolivia? Any known differences regarding price or parts availability (Bolivia probably has more Land Cruisers, right)? Background: It's a 1994 Land Cruiser 80 series. The rear break on the driver's site makes a squeaking noise and I suspect it needs new pads and some adjustment. Breaking power is still ok. Coen Wubbels any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.   I don't know about Peru, but Bolivia's got land cruisers EVERYWHERE. Gotta be easy to get parts and experieneced mechanics. There's a few places in bolivia listed here: http://wikioverland.org/Bolivia I did some work with Julio in Sucre and he was great.

  Can anyone help us with insurance in Argentina for our van? We tried several places in Salta after we crossed the border, but nobody would sell insurance for a foreign vehicle. We're currently in Cafayate and I've tried every company here, but no luck other than Nivel. They will only sell me a 6 month policy (I just need 2 months) and they said it will take 2 weeks to get the papers back from the police! I've emailed Klaus in Bariloche who provides insurance to some overlanders, but I haven't heard back from him yet. Any help would be great. thanks!

  Search didn't turn up much for me (and is absolute horror on mobile). We bought Argentina insurance at Agrosalta, in Aguas Blancas. That's a tiny village, so I'm surprised to hear it's hard in Salta. The WikiOverlander page is pretty sparse on detail IMHO. BTW, Robbie, how did you get into Argentina without insurance? There's no way they would have let us cross by car without insurance in Aguas Blancas/Bermejo, Bolivia.

  Dan- I don't know. For the purpose of building a database to connect an iPhone app to, and allowing others to download an use offline, I think one list is best. But, for viewing on wikioverland.org, by country would certainly be more user friendly. Open to suggestions...

  I volunteer Jared McCaffree to help with the back end. I've got half a bottle of 12 yr Glenlivet I can hold for ransom :) Looks like we need a speadsheet either way. Might as well start with a Google doc, and work with Dan to see if we can get it moved easily to wikioverland at some point.

  So if the owner is with the vehicle, then you're find on insurance and entry into every country, you can always get it at the border ,except Mexico you can get online beforehand. Make sure you're fully legal with insurance and registration before you enter the USA. Details on cost of insurance etc for every country are in wikioverland.org
