I've been asked to design a website for a tattoo shop. Do you have any recommendations for a gallery the artists can login and update themselves? I have some website...

If you're building a website for someone that'll be editing it, the easiest way for both you and the client is going to be with WordPress.
**For you:**
* Galleries work out of the box -- nothing additional necessary.
* Many, many plugins for lightbox-style gallery functionality.
* One of the easiest platforms to write templates for.
**For the client:**
* Easy to edit galleries, pages and posts.
* Easy to expand the website if necessary.
* More control than with a static site using a gallery app.
Create your inner page template, drop in the WP code (just copy, paste and tweak from the "Default" theme), release. Add various pages via WP admin and the client can now tweak the content and galleries of their entire site as easily as working with Microsoft Word.

1) design the website. 2) Get some Pork Bellies. (Looks just like human skin) 3) Print out the design and have them tattoo the website onto the pork skin. 4) Photograph the artwork and rebuild your design with the tattoos. (Photos of the tattoos should look just like real tattoos)

[My web site](http://egypt.urnash.com) is built around [Singapore](http://www.sgal.org/). It's low on the features, which I like.

I'd recommend [YooGallery](http://tools.yootheme.com/extensions/yoogallery) with Joomla CMS. You shouldn't have any trouble with either, both are very powerful and easy to work with. Plus you get a bunch of other toys you may want to use. You shouldn't have any trouble but let me know if you do and I can help you out.

Roll your own? You could do PHP and XML. user.xml (not accessible via .htaccess) user/pass(md5 hash) gallery.php?artist=user load $user.xml add upload field if credentials are good automate thumbnail generation It'd be pretty easy, light and fast. Probably only take 4 hours to code, too.

Expression Engine, FFMatrix and imgsizer and jQuery's lightbox plugin - sooo easy to roll your own and you can easily see how everything works together... And colors? Red & Black. Seriously...

I realize you know *actual* design, but you could always turn the design into a WP theme and then set them up with [NextGen](http://nextgen-gallery.com/gallery-page/).

I really like ZenPhoto for being clean and robust. However, if you want to get them on a Social Media kick, consider just using a flickr account.

[Indexhibit](http://www.indexhibit.org/) hands down. It's very customizable, extremely simple, and designed for both yearly and sectional organization. I've developed a couple of non-portfolio websites on it, so the code base is easy to hack as well. EDIT: It's also a lot lighter-weight than general purpose CMS's.

gonna have to go ahead and throw in the obligatory [ExpressionEngine](http://www.expressionengine.com/) reference. I'm building a site right now with similar functionality and it's very easy to set up and even easier for the client to use.

Gallery 2, [http://gallery.menalto.com](http://gallery.menalto.com). You can create multiple gallery, albums, sub-albums, and give different user permissions to each of them.

[Drupal](http://www.drupal.org) is robust and only slightly harder to learn than WP. Pretty easy to get a gallery going using any number of the available gallery modules.
Anyone know of a really good tattoo shop in the area? And what's the pricing?

I had Larie at Sacred Art do my tattoo on my arm. She created the script and sized it to my liking, took her 45 minutes ($70) and it's very well done. Definitely one of my favorites! I've heard Heigh Priestess can be picky and judgmental about pieces, and has refused to do some because they didn't like it. Again, just something I've heard.

Damian who is currently at Desire Ink in Salem has done my art work for almost a decade now, my friends are always blown away by how little I tell them I paid for each one
Desiree K. replied:
My artist in Portland is Suite C Tattoo / Tattoos by Kim Kress. She is a very talented artist, she actually went to art school and does a wide variety of things. I have friends that go to Pussycat Tattoo and are happy with their tats, but they aren't really my style.
Kat P. replied:
I had mine done by Kassi at High Priestess, and I love it. I talked to a few artists there and we clicked the best. A friend of mine had the same experience with her, and his tattoo looks fantastic as well. I've heard good things about Oregon Heart Tattoo as well, but I haven't been there so I can't speak from experience. But look at portfolios. Bring pictures in and talk to the artists you like about what. It may take a bit longer, but its something that will be on your body forever so its worth it to take the time and find the right artist.

Joey at Sacred Art in Corvallis and either Luis or Matt at Modern Classics in Eugene on River Rd. All three are very versatile and Talented.

Sacred Art in Corvallis is really good. I've gone there twice for tattoos. They're very friendly and great artists

I heard High Priestess is somewhat good, depending on who does it. And Permagrafix in Albany I hear gets really good reviews.
Lisa H. replied:
Oregon Heart Tattoo is great. Kylee does fantastic work and the pricing is decent. There's a Facebook page for her shop, too.
Shila C. replied:
I've heard great things about Sacred Art, but haven't personally been there I've gone to High Priestess and was underwhelmed-artist made me feel rushed and was more about saving time than giving me exactly what I wanted... but I was using a coupon, so I guess you get what you pay for lol

There's a guy at High Priestess who is an awesome artist. His name is Ryan Bollinger. I recommend him from personal experience.
