Amarillo Pediatric is the same. I called just about every place I could find till I found Amy Upton Family Practice. They had opening the staff was friendly and there was only a two week wait to get in.

Carla M. replied:
We go to northwest women and children's. We had a horrible experience with Texas Tech family medicine. Medical students are learning and practicing on your child. Something to really take into consideration if you look at going there. Savannah's knee will be scarred for life.
Tammy S. replied:

Pediatrician in Amarillo who does not force vaccines?
Becca H. replied:
Pia Habersang no longer takes insurance of any kind, nothing to do with Medicaid. Before she started her private practice, they took all insurance including Medicaid, but usually saw special needs children and their siblings.

Tova K. replied:
Pia Habersang did a lecture at an organization I belong to. I was very impressed. Wanted my (now 6 y.o.) child to be her patient. She said she didn't take new patients. I had a suspicion it was because my child, (adopted through CPS) has Medicaid. Sad...
Joaenea H. replied:
I gave up on using a pediatrician. My son is rarely if ever sick and the only vaccinations hes ever had were newborn stuff. I used Dr Walsh and it wasnt that she pressured about vaccines it was that her nurses were very rude about it on a couple occasions so I decided not to go back. Its my choice as a parent NOT to shoot my child full of poison so bring on your funny looks and judgements! I had an ER dr all but call me stupid once for saying "I dont do vaccines" I had to say a prayer and walk away or choke a dr.
Joaenea H. replied:
I totally understand! I quit taking my som after his 3 month checkup and just started using our regular dr in the event we needed her. Hes only been to the dr 6 times for things other than just a little cold or minor tummy upsets and hes 3 and a half. I'm blessed enough to not have to send him to daycare which makes a huge difference! I hope you find someone, as several have said Pia Habersang is wonderful but since going into private practice she does not accept any insurance. As a single mom I cant afford to take him to her or I would!
Tova K. replied:
Valerie and Rebecca, I googled Vision Therapy. Wrote them an email asking if they take Medicaid. We'll see how it goes. I just don't understand the attitude of these uppety-uppety doctors who won't take any kind of insurance. They only want to treat the rich kids??? Or they can't afford to hire a medical billing clerk?? Just wondering....
Head of pediatrics at TT is Sandra Rice at ext 301. Call her and tell her that you haven't been able to get thru, they need to know that. Whatever the problem was they need to get it fixed.
Destiny P. replied:
I couldn't even get ahold of Tech for the past two days. I was on hold for 30 minutes yesterday and never spoke to anyone, so I tried calling early this morning. I waited 10 mins and still no one and I had to get Jaden so I tried calling 13 times and I would only get a busy signal. I had to go up there just for them to tell me I can't get in until 11:15. I had been calling since the minute they opened. I'm at Amarillo Urgent Care now.
June B. replied:

Acacia M. replied:
I know. I had Tri Care but I hadn't cancelled my Medicaid yet, and people wouldn't see Jadee because she had Medicaid.

Kiri N. replied:
You might try Women's and Children's or BSA Family Medical. They both take Medicaid. MOst Pediatricians won't take new patients unless they saw them in the hospital, especially Medicaid. Good luck!
