I took my medium size Rotti mix to the Humane Society clinic. It is a walk-in facility. The vet who volunteers there sized my sissy baby's personality up within a minute and knew he shouldn't be strong armed for his shots. It made all the difference in the world. The clinic does nail trimming too. They open (I believe) at 9 on Saturdays, but you can check their website if you are interested. You do not need an appointment.

i wouldn't take my worst enemy's pet to Altoona Vet Hospital - they are cheap, I'll give them that. About 4 years ago we took my then 12+ year old dog to them to have them check out a growth on her side and a stye in her eye. Vet "did a biopsy" and "found no cancer," so he removed the "cyst" and "stye," both pretty serious operations for a dog of that age. Before the fur grew back over the incision site we had her back at the Vet, where they found that she was so full of cancer they couldn't see her heart or stomach. She died about 5 minutes after the xray on her own. Had the Vet done what he claimed to have done and checked to make sure she didn't have cancer, she would not have suffered thru the surgery or died in pain because she was so full of cancer. I won't even take my pets there to get their nails trimmed.
Any suggestions for a good veterinarian? We need a second opinion for Piper!

Thanks everyone! Kaitlyn Hammel May she gets infections every spring and the vet we take her to said it's because she's in heat. We got her spayed two years ago, she shouldn't be in heat! We just want someone else to check her out. I hate having her on antibiotics all the time:(

I have heard rave reviews about Oaks Veterinary Clinic - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Oaks-Veterinary-Clinic/157231524317234. My girlfriend takes her cat and little critters there and they do a fine job. I also have heard about other friends taking their animals to them and I think they focus more on felines and small animals than the average clinic.

Oaks is the best! its not very nice inside but very reasonable prices and the best vets. also check out Smitten Kitten cat only grooming and boarding boutique. they have high quality food, toys, etc

We take our dog to Ingersoll Animal Hospital and love it. Our dog is very reactive to other dogs, so they always make sure the coast is clear before we bring him in. The doctors and techs are all ridiculously friendly to the point that my dog actually gets excited when we pull up to the building. I'll second IVRC as well. They're a last resort, but there are a lot of great people there as well.
Rileserson replied:
Ill third the Oaks recommendation. You do need to schedule an appointment pretty far in advance. They are very busy for a reason. For emergencies and after hours I've had good experiences at IVRC on Merle Hay.
TuckerWilliams replied:
I'll also recommend Oaks. Been using them for 14 years. They were great when my 17 year old male was going through kidney failure and after a year had to be put down. Very caring vet techs during the procedure. I left feeling as comfortable as I could have about the decision to put him down thanks to their thoughtfulness. Dr. Harmon is a bit weird, but he was really great when my cat was nearing the end.

We take our cat to the Altoona Vet Clinic - Dr. Morrisey is great.
cgaskins replied:
I see you've committed to a vet, but I'll go ahead and second Smitten kitten for any grooming. I get my kitties claws clipped there because they're finicky and they're great!
Friends in Ames! I need recommendations for a good veterinarian...I think my little Belle might be having seizures:( whatever it is, it's scary, and I want to get her...
