Canine Craze is by homemakers. A little out of the way, but it's a great group. They helped us with our severely abused and neglected rescue.

I recommend Rovers Ranch. Darcy is amazing! She's been working with dogs forever she knows them so well and is so patient with them! She does positive reinforcement training not punishment. She knows her stuff!!!! She keeps class sizes small so she can work with each person as needed with each individual pets needs. http://roversranch.com

Jen Hirakawa. We adopted a 1.5 year old black lab mix who ended up having a lot of behavior issues. jen is certified on soooo many levels. She has 6 dogs herself and some of which were "ubadoptables" that the shelters were going to have to put down because of temper or aggression. She has rehabbed all of them. She works with all breeds including my 2 sisters dogs huskie (they are a very difficult and stubborn dogs breed) and my other sister has a 6 month old Great Dane (as a 100lb puppy was causing havoc). jen has changed our world...even within the first hour and a half I had with her with our dog she had assessed him and taught him to lay and sit on hand signals alone. Over the last 6 weeks we went from a dog with the worst of anxiety disorders (who destroyed our house, 2 two kennels, 1 crate, and our garage) to a dog who happily goes to his kennel and doesn't mark, defficate, or try to escape). Jen spent 24 years in the military as a dog trainer for MP's, and has her college degree in animal behavior and psychology. She is the best and doesn't use aggression with animals but patience. Our dog has made such a turn around that we have now chosen to get him certified As a therapy dog!

I had a rotti that was amazing, but very aggressive to my other dog randomly and very unpredictable as she aged. Made it to 13 and I dealt with her issues as best I could, but know you are doing a great job of seeking training now. Canine Krave does training as well. I suggest maybe a in home trainer to deal with his/her life and actions in your home with the people involved that need to be accepted.

Jessica Lohry, who owns Dogwoods in Grimes is a really a good trainer for dogs and their people. All positive reinforcement. Her own dogs diabetic alert (which is what we went to her for, successfully), search & rescue and can put their toys away. The y can also get her a gatorade from the fridge and close the door, or bring her a snack bar from the cupboard (and close the door). She has also worked with quite a few of my frends' dogs with behavior issues. She is amazing.
Jacquie H. replied:
Please encourage them to contact a positive reinforcement trainer with behav mod experience. Force & aversive techniques are not recommended for any dog, but could escalate behavior in a "dominant" personality ... Dana Fedman at Pupstart; Clint Knox or Renee Jetter at Canine Craze; Erin Magnani Topp at Topp Canine; Paula Sunday at Step-by-Step Dog Training.
Sarah S. replied:
Jacquie Holm-Smith ~ she was terrified to go past our yard after an issue we had with a car. I was babying her, not pushing her to realize that it was safe. He helped my boyfriend and I realize that it was our responsibility more so than coaxing her -- that if we pushed her into the water, so to speak, she would learn to swim. He did very well with her and, for me, it was a bit of tough love as I DO baby her -- so the training actually helped me more than it really directly helped her. smile emoticon

Anna Childs is THE person to go to, from what I've heard. I'm actually going to be getting in touch with her regarding our newest puppy that clearly has alpha issues, as well, and is unmanageable on a leash.

I absolutely love Canine Training by Mystic Moon (Tonja). She will come in and do in-home training or also has group classes. Our dog was cornering people at the front door and she was able to help us stop the behavior in two sessions.
