Ann Arbor veterinarian suggestions for a cat/kitten?
Garrett D. replied:
HSHV is great too, and a non-profit clinic. http://www.hshv.org/.../clinic/clinicindex.html

I love my vet but he is outside of Saline, a bit of a drive but worth it. He's like a dream vet - he's in his 80's, has his office on his farm, and knows all kinds of issues and how to treat everything. He charges fair (and cheap) prices. He's helped me over the phone more than once for nothing, and also my friends too. He's amazing and I'd highly recommend him! Google Bridgewater Vet - his name is Bill Wellman.
Sarah M. replied:
I would recommend you do NOT go to A2 Animal Hospital. I used to go there and it's really expensive. The vet you get (they have a few) is hit or miss, there's at least one there that's not very good. Also, they're always in a rush and it's very clinical-like, not the best environment (in my opinion).
Danielle G. replied:
Washtenaw Veterinary Clinic on Packard. Dr Eberley is great!
Josh H. replied:
The Ann Arbor Cat Clinic is good
Chrissa S. replied:
I know it is not A2 but thought I would tell ya anyway bc we took our dog here for years. Very nice! http://www.animalkingdomveterinaryhospital.com/
Mounir B. replied:
Affordable Vet Clinic for routine/minor issues. Ann Arbor Animal Hospital for major issues. Welcome to having a pet!
Griffin R. replied:
I second Easthaven animal clinic. Used to go to AA Cat clinic but they were kind of snooty (wanted all outdoor vaccines for indoor cats, etc). They are also more expensive, so we switched to Easthaven, where I've always taken my dogs.
Andrew G. replied:
Cat Clinic is the A2 elitist choice. Affordable is the Old west side choice....
Angie V. replied:
I used to bring my cats to Dr Wellman in Bridgewater too. He's an old-school type of vet. Super nice guy:)
Deborah O. replied:
Love the Cat clinic. Course you always want another cat after leaving there and seeing all their babies waiting homes.
Sarah A. replied:
Afordable vet services, they're really amazing and they wont charge you an arm and a leg. http://www.affordablevetservices.com/
Talia G. replied:
Casey- you MUST call A2 Mobile Vet!!! Annie Staebler is just the best, and the fact that they come to your house is a HUGE, HUGE bonus. tons of my friends and family who used to use Easthaven and/or A2 Animal Hospital have all switched to Annie and A2 Mobile Vet, for the affordability, convenience and the fact that Dr. Staebler is simply amazing!!!! http://www.a2 mobilevet.com/
Anna G. replied:
I take my kitty Jordan to Dr. Butman at Easthaven Veterinary Hospital on the corner of Huron Parkway and Washtenaw, and we love her.:)
Anna G. replied:
Whatever you do, don't go to Westgate Animal Clinic.
Hello all...i just have few questions
1.Anybody ever use any vitamins/herbs in their dogs diets?
2.Does anyone in the Metro Detroit area have a vet that specializes in...
Trisha P. replied:
Oh heck if you can take care of a diabetic cat, check glucose and give insulin Vit B is a piece of cake.
Nikki L. replied:
I am going to ask about the b-12 injections and pet-tinic on Wednesday we we have our follow up at UC Davis. They are also available by email, which is awesome because I of course have questions too I forget and they are so wonderful to get right back to me. Much better than calls even, because I can have everything written down for my scrambled head to remember!
Trisha P. replied:
The biggest thing we used which helped hugely was Organic Milk Thistle Seed Powder, milk thistle tincture and CellFood Sam-E, this helped Mitchell's liver far more than Denamarin. Dr Jean Dodds is a world renown Endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid problems, immune mediated problems such as IMHA and all the meds our pups are on completely whack the thyroid. She does so much work with IMHA dogs, she is absolutely wonderfully compassionate for our pups. ALL Vets know of her but few really know entirely what she does, our Vet consulted with her on several occasions and this actually changed his way of looking at IMHA and thyroid supplementation, so glad she talked with him. She called me from Italy when she was on vacation, I had emailed her and called her in a panic when Mitchell was first diagnosed.
Jackie S. replied:
I was told by 2 different vets to use Frontline because it doesn't get into Scamp's system and if he gets a tick disease again it can turn out bad. Callie Kennedy knows a lot about vitamins/ herbs and Dr Dodds. I use pet-tinic (vitamin) and Scamp is so much perkier since he started taking it and eating the "liver diet" that is in the files on this page. He goes in for blood tests next week.
Andy D. replied:
I shy away from any flea chemical. There is a safe product called Diatamacous earth. You want to use food grade. I kills fleas and is safe on pets. Any local dog store should carry it. the Pet-tinic is excellent and recommended by Dr Dodds.Pet-tinic is available on ebay but be sure you are getting the 4 oz bottle its about $15 You can go to hemopet .com for information on Dr.Dodds.And it looks like you got the vet answer.

We live in Dearborn and take Peanut to Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Ann Arbor. He is being treated by Dr. Jim Whitehead, an internal medicine vet who is familiar with the disease. We got his name from another member on here whose dog also has it.

Thank-you Clarisse Andrus
Callie K. replied:
Star -- Missed your intial question -- Dr Dodds is Dr. W. Jean Dodds, DVM -- for 30 years she was the head of the Endocrinology Dept at Michigan State Vet School. She is the author/"originator" of the breed-specific thyroid test (used by both Michigan State even now, and Hemopet). After she retired from Michigan State she founded Hemopet (which is a blood donor organization where vets can get pure blood products (i.e., not tainted because the donor was vaccinated frequently nor recently. It's also difficult for vets to otherwise get blood products that have been typed and cross-matched with a sick dog who has already had one transfusion). While founding Hemopet, she has continued her own research on Canine Thyroid Testing and ALSO on all the immune-mediated blood diseases. She is probably one of the biggest international authorities on IMHA, IMT and the other diseases all related to the blood. She is THE best help you can get and she will consult with your vet for a very nominal fee. http://www.hemopet.com/ is her website.
Callie K. replied:
and yes, I use a lot of herbs -- please email me Starr - at callieatcritturs@yahoo.com if I can help you with herbs or alternative things. It's pretty rare to be able to successfully treat IMHA completely holistically -- it's too aggressive and too quickly fatal. BUT you can use herbs and many alternative things to help protect the body from the ravages of the drugs.
Vet Advice Hey there,
I was hoping someone could recommend a good and affordable vet around Ann Arbor. I'm an out of town grad student and have been taking my dog to...

http://cathythevet.net/meet_dr_cathy Lots of great vets in A2. Cathy's amazing! Comes to your house!!! We love her. Does rescue...just an awesome person and amazing vet. Really brings the stress level of the animal down. Especially cats. She uses a small cat bag for ours (like the Temple Grandin "hug box" method). Not much more than average vet. House call fee is minimal especially in Ann Arbor. Worth an email/call.
iknowafewthings replied:
Seconding Affordable Vet Services. It's the unofficial vet of grad students' pets...it's also just a great place!
moongirli replied:
Thirding Affordable. Dr. Maya is also super nice. Also the Ann Arbor Animal Hospital over on Liberty is nice enough. (Nicer for emergencies than for everyday use, though.)

Affordable vets I think it's called? It is in the same complex that ace hardware is in

West Arbor is awesome, though a little far out. They've been really good with helping my little dumbasses out of shenanigans like eating a wad of plastic Easter grass.

I've heard good things about the Village Clinic in Dexter. Probably more affordable than AA.

I would recommend South Arbor Animal Hospital. I take my dog there now, they are super nice. They are right across the street from Rave Motion Pictures on Carpenter road.
