Hi All - I'm sure this has been asked so sorry for this but are there any really good local summer camps you would reccommend? Keep in mind this would be for a 8 year...
Kara M. replied:
We LOVE the camps at our school and they are open to the public. this is last year's site: http://www.keyschool.org/summer/index.aspx
Jason S. replied:
The YMCA operates Camp Letts in Edgewater. Our 9 year old had fun last year. You can do a day camp or residential.
Julie C. replied:
The Chesapeake Family Camp Fair will be March 1 at Annapolis Area Christian School. Lots of local camps will be there that day and many offer incentives if you sign up that day. AACS runs a day camp and we always sign up at the fair because it's pay for 2 weeks get 1 free, plus a early bird discount.

I don't know about this one but it looks great with 1:7 ratio. My son is going into the 6 th grade so he is too old. The Jan. edition of What's Up Annapolis Magazine also has all the local camps info in it. I was just looking at a copy at the docs office. Hope you find one that meets your needs. http://amaritime.org/education/summer-camp

I can't say enough good things about Bayside at Sandy Point. It is run by Mike and Georgia (aka Rafiki and Sierra, their camp names that the kids call them) with lots of energetic college-aged counselors. It's a very homegrown but well-organized camp. Our older son has enjoyed going for 3 years now and our younger one is about to start this summer. It's also relatively inexpensive (around $165-175 a week). They hang out in the pavilion/group rental area of Sandy Point and the grounds, beach and facilities there are beautiful, private and uncrowded - well away from the masses. The kids get to choose their activities like team sports, arts & crafts, outdoor cooking, kayaking, crabbing, etc. http://creativecri.org/

Maryland Zoo, B&O Railroad Museum, Port Discovery and the Science Museum in Baltimore. National Zoo in DC (free, only cost is parking but you can make an adventure of it and take metro). Discovery Theater through the Smithsonian. Then all the museums on the mall (most have hands on play rooms for the kids -- all free), Natural History has a great bug zoo.

Christine L. replied:
For outdoor fun Quiet Waters park has a great playground and they offer family friendly free concerts every weekend. Indoors Chuck E Cheese on a weekday is usually empty and has lots of games for a little ones for a reasonable price.
Christine L. replied:
Annapolis Bowl is also fun and reasonable if it's hot outside.
Any recommendations for a local art class that my eleven year old son might like to take this summer, perferably not a summer camp?
I was thinking AACC but was hoping...
Heather W. replied:
Maryland Hall
Sylvia G. replied:
Severna Park Community Center.
Christine S. replied:
Thanks all! I forgot all about Maryland Hall. I will look into the places mentioned tomorrow. Heather Weber did Aiden take sculpting at Maryland Hall or SP Community Ctr.? I think Maryland Hall would be the closest since we can just go the backroads into Annapolis. Are the classes small at Maryland Hall? He is really into drawling right now and is looking into developing more techniques. I love art but I think it would be more fun for him to take a class on his own. When I was in 7 th grade I was in a small night class with all adults. I liked it but maybe would have liked it more if the people were closer to my age group.
