Lauren Hefferon, I'm sorry you're dealing with this. You should just outsource this research -- call Kathy Kemp who is a geriatric care manager -- she knows everything and everybody in elder care. We did the same thing with my parents in California and the care manager was a godsend. My parents ended up in great places for the rest of their lives. And Kathy's fantastic. http://www.kathykemp.com

For a home health aid you could check out care.com, I found a wonderful man for my husband there.

I found Lourie August, social worker at the Arlington Senior Center, to be a wonderful resource 2 years ago when my mother was considering a move from senior housing in Maine to the Arlington area. Lourie helped me figure out all of the different options based on my mother's needs. She recommended the VNA assisted living on Alewife Brook Parkway in Somerville, just across from the Arlington line. My mother has been there for a little over a year and is quite happy there (she doesn't love all of the food in the dining room, but she has a full kitchen and still does some of her own cooking). The activities are not as fancy as some of the more expensive places, but the people are fantastic.

I liked Sunrise Burlington dementia unit better than Arl. The reminiscence floor director Providence is lovely and has been there 6 years. Eventually, residents end up there unless they move to skilled nursing facility after a fall or medical need.

My mother in law has been at Brightview Arlington for a year and a half. We're very pleased with her care in the dementia unit.

Can’t say enough about Sunrise Arlington. Mom has been well taken care of. Staff has gone above and beyond to make sure her transition went smoothly.
Anyone have any experience with home health care (bathing, dressing, etc) covered by insurance for right after surgery? Recommendations? What to avoid? planning ahead...

Had an excellent experience with Arlington visiting nurses (which included other skilled providers, e.g. an occupational therapist to help with limited use/safety issues) for my dad post shoulder-surgery. He stayed with us for several weeks post-surgery then went home to finish PT/rehab in his own town. Very professional and each person who came over was also very nice. http://www.thevisitingnurses.com/
Does any one know of a reputable Home Health Care company in No. Virginia? My sister broke her shoulder a month ago and has been staying with us. She would like to...
