Zhavanya Leib is wonderful and there is usually a coupon in the local magazines for a discount.

Ah yes, you'd be right in saying that's Genevieve's page. For some reason I thought that one was hers. Here is her page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Reiki-Grounding-Massage/768185659863576?fref=pb&hc_location=profile_browser

I suggest that you check with the state of WA to see which schools in CA are listed. CA schools are mostly not accepted in other states. This is a good way of finding out which are. I know IPSB in San Diego where I trained which is accredited or certified by the uber-organization. What kind of work will you be interested in doing?

Getting comfy on the table? I'm getting my first massage on Saturday, due to a recommendation from my occupational therapist to start getting them. Problem however, is...

I have this exact same problem. The therapist will bolster your shoulders! If they don't, then ask them to bolster your shoulders. They'll have blocks or rolled up towels to put under the front of your left and right shoulders to take you out of that uncomfortable roll-down position. They'll also put pillows under your ankles and under your abdomen to take pressure off your low back and put you in a position for optimal massage comfort. Remember - this treatment is about YOU. If you want ANYTHING changed, voice it. They'll appreciate being able to give you the best possible experience they can.

Therapist should have pillows, also putting rolled up towels under your shoulders will help too :) if the therapist doesn't think of it you could ask for it.

You can request side lying position, also.

make sure you bring this up, or tell the front desk worker (our clinic's front desk attaches notes to clients forms for a smoother transition). it is not a problem at all (no need to bring pillows). anytime you are uncomfortable just communicate with the therapist. as /u/SaltyFresh said, you aren't alone in this, and this is all about you. communication is key, as a therapist this really bothers me. if you are uncomfortable, you can't relax. if you can't relax you are uncomfortable. tell your therapist, don't wait and tough it out, relax and enjoy your massage. you'll thank you. your therapist will thank you.

I second (and third and fourth!) what everyone has said. Just let the therapist know that your chest gets uncomfortable when you are on your stomach and they'll bolster you up. It's not a big deal at all, and personally I love it when a client makes a request to be more comfortable; it means they are willing to relax and know that they CAN speak up!

I use [Body Cushions](http://www.bodysupport.com/), and most of my clients love them. When prone, they provide a little more space and cush for breast tissue. Even with the Body Cushions, and even with folks who aren't busty at all, I usually also bolster the shoulders. They also work great for side-lying. When I arrange someone on their side, they often remark on how cozy it is. They work fine for supine positioning as well, but prone and side-lying are where they really shine. In any case, there are ways to make prone positioning more comfortable and there are other positions that might work well for you, too.

Everyone's right: The massage therapist should be able to make you comfortable. That said, some newer massage therapists (and some especially oblivious veterans) might not have the necessary pillows/bolsters, and they may not be familiar with propping up the shoulders. If this is the case, don't tough it out. If you're in direct contact with the MT, consider asking before your appointment ("Sometimes I'm uncomfortable laying on my chest. Is there anything to do about that?"). I know the "comfort first" thing seems unanimous here, but we're an especially engaged group. You might need to shop around if your massage therapist isn't able to accommodate you.
