Couple of things...we are new to the area (Pilot Hill) and i'm trying to get into the other Divide pages and buy sell trade pages but my requests keep getting denied....
Tom B. replied:
I can endorse Shingle Springs Vetrinary. Doc Bader has never taken advantage and has repeatedly shown me how to perform various tasks that would otherwise make him money. They are also a 24 hour emergency clinic. I've been with them for 25 years.
Donna B. replied:
Propane, if you own your own tank, you can use whoever has the lowest price, if you rent your stuck using whoever provided the tank, however you can switch out the tank & go with another company. I'm in Cool & use Kamps. Have used several over the years, but find Kamps has good prices & great customer service. Would have to say Dr. Irene is the best vet around, but you would need to drive to Georgetown. Cool vet is ok, I use them for General animal treatment like shots etc.

Welcome to the Divide! It is a great place to live! Both of the vets (Cool Animal and Black Oak in Georgetown) are great. Saras Cool Critter Cuts does an amazing grooming job. Divide Auto is right there in Cool. https://www.facebook.com/115101708539509 McDaniel's Auto Repair is just up the road in Greenwood. Propane, when you own the tank, it really is best to call each company. There are lots of great local businesses to choose from. Call or go see them all, chat a little, look around and see what fits for you. Looking around the town's and meeting people is always fun. I'd also recommend you check out Story Time at the Georgetown Library with your little one. ;)

Kristen H. replied:
Dr Harrison at animal medical center in auburn is great. They're all really nice but she our vet.
Davalynn N. replied:
Yes, we tried low activity for 6 months before we had the surgery done. That can work for a partial tear. My dog's acl was completely severed, so it was never going to get better on it's own. The way Dr. Sheriff explained it was that ligament is like a rope that is fraying. Everyday a another little piece of rope frays off until the last piece snaps (although some dogs can sever it all at once). The vet can't really tell if the ligament is completely severed until the leg is opened up for the surgery, but they can do a range of motion exam to try and determine how bad the injury is. Our dog is only 4 years old, so he has a lot of years left. If he was older, I probably wouldn't have had the surgery done.
Jenny K. replied:
Black oak animal hospital works with an orthopedic surgeon who comes up there to do acl surgeries. His name is Dr. Bertoy and I believe his surgeries run about 2000. They would have him look at the x rays and if you and him decide on surgery you just set up a date. He travels up here to black oak which is very convenient. Any questions call at 530-333-1544.

Lori B. replied:
I had my Bull Mastiff's leg done by Dr Bertoy. I was warned that my dog had an 80% chance of blowing out the other knee once it was fixed, and he did. The cost was 1,500 per knee. My dogs knee didnt take, and he had to have the banding removed at a cost of 600. He now has two bad knees, if I had a do over he only have one. Best of luck with your pooch.
Trish C. replied:
If you need an orthopedic vet, Dr. Griffin at Loomis Basin is absolutely wonderful. He was able to diagnosis my girl Kendal with an early Cranial Cruciate Ligament injury with just a physical exam. Right now it's a very early injury, so she is resting & taking Rimadyl twice a day. (P.S. If you need that med, which is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory. Costco fills those prescriptions, and also has the generic form, Truprofen, which cost me $63 for 120 tablets.) Best of luck! By the way, what are your pups symptoms??

Deborah P. replied:
Go to Dr. Raymond. Placerville Animal Wellness on Placerville Drive. My dog had the same thing. He did not have to have surgery. He treated it with injections. (530) 622 - 3595 They are open Monday through Thursdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Davalynn N. replied:
I'm sorry to say that I would not go to Loomis Basin for any reason. They were bought out last year by VCA and the recent reviews are terrible. Just the consult with their surgeon cost over $200. They are over-priced and I don't think that they are better than any place else. For the kind of money that Loomis charges, you would be better off going to UC Davis.
Davalynn N. replied:
I highly recommend Dr. Tom Sheriff at North Fork in Auburn. He did the severed ACL surgery on my 120 pound Anatolian. After being told by two different vets, including Loomis Basin, that my dog needed to have his leg broken and a metal plate put in, Dr. Sheriff was able to use a new artificial ligament that is weight tested for big dogs. He was half the price of Loomis, and 9 months later, my dog is doing great. Dr. Tom is a "big dog whisperer" and is the only vet that doesn't muzzle my dog when we go in the office. I take all of my animals there now.
Davalynn N. replied:
It was about $2,500.00 That included the consult, surgery, follow-up visits, pain meds, etc. Dr. Sheriff was the third opinion that I got. I'm so glad that I went that extra step and got a great doctor.

Look for Banfield clinics. I know there is one in Lincoln, and they will opening 7 days a week so when you go in tomorrow there won't be an emergency fee...now, as a vet tech, let me give you a heads up on the cost! Most GOOD hospitals will want to sedate your dog and that equals time (at least half the day) and money. Where I work, around 300-400 for the whole deal. But it NEEDS to be taken care of.

Terri J. replied:
If you just want shots (not including Rabies), Lee's Feed in Shingle Springs does a shot clinic, Incredible Pets in Auburn has one. I'm sure there are others. You have to check with them as to what day they are. However, the older dogs and cats even more so need that extra care from a yearly vet visit to check them over.

Most of the in-store shot clinics are operated by VIP Petcare. You can see their services and pricing on their site and there is also a "Find a clinic near you" feature: https://www.vippetcare.com/services-pricing/
