Hi I'm a psychologist working locally I usually focus on athletes and high pressure performers so might not be the right person. I'd really recommend mindfulness practices especially Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy or the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course (e.g. http://mindfulpsychology.co.nz/mindfulness/mbct/ ). The emphasis in these courses is on doing and being: practice and action rather than just talking...and you can be confident that's it is a proven method that you can rely on for your daughter. Also the practitioners are likely trained in understanding the stuff that can go along with depression when you're a teenager so it's one of the most likely things to work for relapse prevention. Bring her to a karate class. Karate/Martial Arts training has many benefits for children. • Self Defence/Fitness/Concentration/Coordination/Self Discipline. Training will help act as an outlet for her stress. We have many kids with anger issues who find that martial arts training is of great benefit. Kids need an outlet too for their stress..... Oxenford & Coomera Community Youth Centre had some free parenting programs that can help you talk to her. They are all so good. Tuning into kids, 123 magic, bringing up great kids etc.... Check them out. The term has only just started

Griffith University has a program called the Family Interaction Program. Ring the Early Learning Years Centre at Coomera Springs and ask to speak to Suminda. She was a brilliant help for me and my little boy. The program is what you need.

What is not expensive? I pay $125 per session for a good psychotherapist I can reccomend in the CBD

I’d start with seeing your doctor as I believe there’s a scheme where under certain conditions you can get a few initial sessions with a counsellor for free. (Not sure how it works, just know I wasn’t asked to cough up.) This is useful for developing a rapport and finding someone you can be comfortable with and really open up around.

Have you considered going to a church Pastor? It won't cost you anything and they deal with the worst of humanity every day. Gary Colville at Hosanna Porirua is very good. EDIT: by worst of humanity I mean people who are deliberately evil. I wasn't referring to people who are seeking help like yourself! Sorry just realised how that sounded....

Last time I used talkingworks.co.nz I noticed there were some counsellors who offered Skype sessions. I don't have experience with any so can't recommend, and the site is ordered geographically so may be a little difficult to navigate. But it may be somewhere to start looking....
