Mark Harris of Harris dental on Bealey Ave. He water lasered my daughters lip and tongue ties. We went through:Rural Canterbury Health Board for a referral with Vicki Patterson and Ruth O'donovan-amazingly wonderful and helpful lactation consultants:) It cost us $380 Dr Mark Harris Harris Dental Limited 62 Bealey Avenue Christchurch Central 8013 Ph: 03 366 9982

For Broadway Medical in Dunedin just ring and ask for an appointment with Dr Bennett. He cuts tongue ties with a scalpel. Also The Breast Room is great for support/advice or if you want to find out if there actually is a tongue tie first.

In Whangarei there are 3 free lactation consultant drop in clinics, 2 at Te Puawai Ora, 3 Keays Road, Maunu. Clinic times are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am until 2 pm. On Fridays there is a drop in clinic at Child Health Centre, Gate 1, Hospital Rd. from 10 - 2 pm. The lactation consultants can refer on for further assessment to Speech Language Therapists or to a local GP or ENT for treatment.
Vicki P. replied:
In the Canterbury community Ruth O'Donovan & Vicki Patterson work for Rural Canterbury PHO. We cover the enitre Canterbury, from Kaikoura to Ashburton & out to Hanmer Springs, as well as the enitre urban region. We require a referral from an LMC, GP, Plunket Nurse, Le Leche League Leader or breastfeeding peer counsellor. A complete assessment of lactation is undertaken & then all options explored. Tongue ties that are suitable for scissor release are referred to Christchurch Women's Hospital where the procedure is carried out by one of the Neonatal consultants. For babies whose ties are not suitable for scissor release, & for lip ties the option that is offered is laser through Mark Harris at Harris Dental in ChCh. Dr Harris carries out the laser release for breastfeeding babies who have first been assessed by Ruth or Vicki as suitable candidates for this option. Mothers & babies are then provided with follow up support & reassessment by either Ruth or Vicki. We believe that this is a key component of the entire process. For extra details & info, as well as for support groups & peer counsellors please contact us on 03 3574970 ext 213.

For your information Trish Warder does not do frenotomies but we often work together as I do them daily at my practice in Milford on the North Shore at Milford Family Medical Centre.

Hi Rachel Hansen - we are osteopaths based at the Wellwest Clinic in Henderson, West Auckland. We are primarily focussed on treating babies / children using very gentle hands on treatment (including cranial technique) and we often see babies needing support with tongue function and latch following tongue tie release. We recently attended the Tongue Tie Clinical forum at the 2014 NZ Lactation Consultants Conference - which was very interesting and helpful in furthering our knowledge of tongue tie. Our services cost $70 and our website is www.wellbaby.co.nz - let me know if you would like any further info:)

Dr Hisham at Laser Life Care Auckland City, expensive but he is a pioneer and passionate advocate for breastfeeding and tongue tie release $880 includes all pre and post op appts, emotionally understanding and professional. Trish Warder private lactation consultant $175 for 1 1/2 hours appt and free follow up phone and email support, she is incredible and worthwhile to help with post release excersizes and helped me with reflux and oversupply too. Cranial Osteopath if difficult labour and feeding Ryan Young in Grey Lynn is brilliant $60 or Wellbaby at Wellwest Henderson Auckland $75 for a womans touch. Plunket Family Centres especially Joan Miller West Auckland are great with tongue tie support. YES these treatments are expensive and YES this is a stressul time but with the right support you will get through it. Ive had my two boys done - 1st at 9 weeks and 2nd at 5 days old, both type 4 posterior and lip ties, and no my own (type 1) done at 31 years of age and I am a true believer and advocate for laser tongue tie release. PLEASE PARENTS FEEL FREE TO PM ME I am more than happy to share my experience with baby and adult release, but dont have time to always post on here.
